What drives you?

What motivates you guys to train and diet the way that we do?

For me I think my drive comes from my dream of never being average. I always wanted to be a professional athlete or a rich man... something to separate me from the rest of the herd. I started lifting when I was younger because I was told by girls I was skinny and I was also bullied quite a bit. But I really started to enjoy lifting.. and eventually started to like the sport of bodybuilding. And I think now I see it as my means of achieving my goal of being something special... something different from the average man. I think that is why this is now my obsession and why I have taken things to the next level.

This is new for me. I have done everything you can imagine good and bad. Became coplacent looked said that aint me. Lost a lot of weight started dieting heavy. Jumped in full speed ahead. What drives me are the results. I see myself changing. I will never reach the caliper of most of yall but i will be back in shape. The brothers here are the best. You can somebody any time of the day or night to keep u on track

I just try to be the best that "I" can be. I just have always loved the sport. I started playin with weights in 6th grade, being the smallest guy around is really what drove me the most

When I first started I wanted to be the biggest freakiest beast around. I would stand in awe of big guys in the gym and i wanted to be bigger than anyone I've ever seen at any cost. It become an obsession and desire what I couldn't get enough of, I was fully addicted to training and researching how to build size and once the results started to show that was me done fully obsessed. It was all about the size for me the bigger the better, it wasn't getting on stage that never interested me it was purely the size game. The drive inside of me was really bad because it effected every part of my life which meant sacrifices and I would say I was very much like a serious addict what I couldn't stop.

I love anatomy, I find beauty in it. When I look at people I see anatomy, proportions, etc. anywhere I go. I want the beauty.

Awesome responses guys.... I feel like I can relate to a lot of it.

Marcus I feel like I'm heading down that same path... I want to be the biggest mother f'er around.. I sacrifice a lot... including friends. Im numb to just about everything in my life because I'm so obsessed with my training. My life revolves around it and when things aren't going well with my training it really affects me in a negative way. Last fall when I was hurt and couldn't train I was the most miserable I have ever been.

I agree, Being a small dude is 100% what ignited my obsession with lifting from 13 years old. At 5.5 im practically a target in bars for fights, as rediculous as that sounds. As ive gotten bigger ive noticed i dont run into confrentations as much, but i think that also has to do with age and maturity. At the end of the day it just boils down to the fact that i wanna be a FREAK!

It's something I can do myself. No one else is responsible for my success or failure, just me. It's been a driving force in my life but I feel I've been fortunate enough to keep it in perspective.

I would rather live like a king for a day then a peasant for a lifetime. If it kills me at 28 so be it. Life is about doing what makes you happy. Do not fear the reaper gents. Reach for them stars.

Ive always heard the opposite about bar fights... people have told me it's usually the big guy that's the target because guys usually get their beer muscles and want to feel like a big man so they fight the biggest guy there. But from my own personal experience it's usually the two guys who are the most drunk and have the least amount of brain cells that end up fighting lol

That's kind of how I felt about motocross as a kid... team sports are ok but I never quite fit in but with motocross/bodybuilding it's just you.

Turning from fat ass to being in decent shape has been a life changing event for myself.
I have never had a self esteem issue but being in shape has had a huge impact on boosting my self confidence in life.
Seeing what I have achieved and knowing what I want to achieve in the gym is what drives me to keep pushing everyday.
Plus I fricken love the lifestyle.

I am far from being huge like some of the other members on here and I don't want this to sound like an ego thing but here a few little things that also help drive me.
Going to the incline bench with DB'S and have people stop and watch because of the weight you are lifting.
The random woman that stops you in the gym and compliments your size or condition.
The young guy that asks how in hell you got so big.
Curling in front of the mirror and realizing that your arm is starting to look like a road map.
Being 46 years old and knowing I am stronger and better shape than a lot of 25 year olds in the world.

My daughter attempted suicide some years back and I decided nothing and no one would ever hurt her again. I keep that image in my mind every time I challenge myself.

my ego.

it's one of the few things totally in my control.

i'm a scientist and entrepreneur in the real world, and i just get sooooo much satisfaction when i'm mistaken for somebody's bodyguard or a professional athlete.

maybe sounds shallow, but it is what it is.

I came up with one more thing. Maybe the most important one. Forget girls and headturns. I heard Arnold today was saying that he wanted to puke everytime he saw himself in his bathroom mirror.
I too really hate that feeling. But i really love it when i think...wooooow...must be the deca or the deads....

Better feeling than hitting on the girls at the gym or that silly headturn from the moran walking down the streets.

I just arrived at Jamaica on Friday for vacation. As we are standing around at the pool I look at all of these people and realize why go to the gym 6 days a week.

Within the first 3 hours I've had at least 8 people ask the normal questions.
How long have you been working out?
How long have been growing your beard?
Did it hurt to get all of those tattoos?

My wife took a picture of me at the pool bar with a bunch of people and showed it to me. I suddenly realized that yes she is right I don't exactly blend in with a crowd anymore.

I am off to the gym this morning and pretty sure I won't have to deal with a crowd of people there.
