The claim is it costs more to homgenize and pasturize milk and put it in a jug than it does to produce it. They buy it by the hundred weight boil it and stick it in a carton and put 150% markup on it from what they paid the farmer.

It is absolute fuckery. The government has destroyed the dairy industry by socializing it. They even have a slap in the face subsidy they pay the farmers when the cost of production exceeds the market value, which is always.

Dairy farmers are paid by the state to keep on producing, and national milk (which is really wouldn't stand a chance to compete with foreign milk is subsidized so that prices remain low)
On top of that we have about 277-300% (depending on the going rate) import tax on foreign cheese. So we export cheese, to f.ex the US. (Don't know if you've ever seen Jarlsberg or Norvegia were you are),
abs while we don't import US cheese that I know of
(You might have some cheeses in not familiar with, but the US is not know for their cheese, but I digress)
We DO import French cheese, at an import tax of at least 277%, so that it won't be any cheaper than national cheese.

This is actually what Trump supposed on some Mexican goods, the difference being that we only tax foreign goods than can compete with domestic goods.
But anyway, this is SOCIALISM. Something I thought you really didn't like.
Or have you changed will join in on the singing the commie "International" next?

I know I agree comletely with the last statement. If the US government had never stuck their fucking hand in in the first place the market would have fixed itself. The kiwi farms they helped start also.... heres the funny part.... they get paid a premium for the amount they produce.

The government bought up third and fourth generation dairys to close them, then gave grants to New Zealanders to start enormous operations, in which they get paid more simply for being big...

I never said I wanted protection for the farmers or anyone. I want them to stay the fuck away from it. All they do is fuck shit up and create money eating machines that must consume more every day to survive.

like op, i'm most concerned about alternate facts and the attack on the media. that being said, the media has an inherent conflict between success with their business model and truly objective reporting. so i think criticism of the media is merited. it's just too bad the criticism is more along political lines then the more complex inherent conflict of interest at the business model level. i guess it's asking too much of washington to rise above the swamp - which even mires trump.

And it is sad.

But over here at least, there still are papers and news that have not only hype and rumour. Though looking at the most common papers, there's a lot of what we call "carrot news", as it's about as novel and interesting as discussing how carrots grow.

Also, debates irritate me a lot, cause they usually last one hour, and it's by the end of that hour that both politicians usually have picked apart the others argument, but they still cling to their own original one, who, if the debate continued for another hour, would have to be reviewed, as it's been shot down by the other.
So I'd wish they just start filming after one hour,
Cause then the politicians would actually have to say:
"You know, I can see your point, maybe if we did this then.." instead of just repeating their original argument in a different manner.

But over here we have news channels that are state governed too. And private ones.
State governed may sound awful to you, but it actually means they are accountable in a way private channels are not. Had it only been state media I'd be worried, but when you have a mix it's actually not bad.
