I agree on one hand and disagree on another. This is not a good argument for imposing protectionism. If another worker decides to do the same thing you do, but cheaper, you have no right to stop them from doing it. If they are doing it cheaper because they are doing it in an illegal fashion (such as not having permits/necessary insurance/staying in the country with a work permit et.c.) then rat them out - theyre not playing a fair game. But to claim a job must pay a set minimum because you feel you need to have some set of material things is wrong. You can only demand a certain price when the buyer agrees to pay it, and this usually happens when you have unique expertise/something rare.

If we were to price things like that then we will stifle the economy. Instead of letting things become cheaper (meaning we can buy more things for our money, which leads to more goods being produced, more jobs, more innovation) we dictate what others should pay and put a halt to the evolution of everything.

*edit because my sentence was incomplete* Though on the other hand the economy can't have people who are forced to pay for e.g. insurance, permits, taxes et.c. to run a business, while still allowing for other people to come without paying those fees, and compete with the aforementioned businesses.

I agree the system will never be perfect. You will always have some people not contributing. That is another issue that needs attention. Getting non workers into the work force. It would be impossible to generalize it to "them" and "us" on this. Not all americans have the same opinion, and not all europeans do either.

To pool our money together for unforeseen happenings sounds good in theory but in practice, once you do that, the costs multiply. Look up how much it costs per year for full health insurance from a private company. I would rather have it that those who are unable to work get this for free, while everyone else gets to make as much money as they want and choose to which degree they wish to be insured.

Look how heated the debates become every time we try to talk politics. Because we are all extremely unique due to both genetic and environment we will never like the same things. We have representative democracies so we should agree on one person who is ideal for our political values. This is like saying we will all agree on which time we will wake up next sunday, what we will eat, which time we will crap (and how much paper we will use to wipe ourselves), how we will position ourselves on our chairs to feel comfortable et.c. Then every time we feel someone voted wrong on one of these things and we suffer for it, we will eventually lash out. I don't even see the meaning of debates when it gets like this.

It's not that if we minimize government, we wont be able to do things we do now. For example those who wish to help refugees of war, may freely open the doors of their homes and help them, instead of pooling the whole nations resources to do it in a very ineffective manner (I don't even want to remember what the cost per refugee is). Some things are unavoidable so there is meaning behind having a fiat currency and taxation. Some regulation is needed. Funding for research. Emergency services. And even then there will be disagreements. People just need to get a good grip on the notion of property ownership and that it is wrong to decide how to use other peoples property or how they should live their lives.

I am just hoping anti aging research succeeds so I can watch the evolution go on for a couple hundred years. If dramatic things happen soon then the evolution will speed up. Maybe we will communicate and remember more due to the internet. Hopefully for each stage of evolution the world will learn and set up new rigid systems to not allow the same thing to happen. This sets the stage for fighting corruption, providing real education, sound economic policies which focus on real growth measured in how to enrich our lives, not how to raise the prices of stocks only to have them crash and create debt bubbles, and so on...
