Lifting equipment?

So I am really thinking of turning my outside patio into a little gym. Just a rack, bench press all in one piece with legs and so on, tower and so on. Just to have at home for those days I just feel like bumping out a few rounds at home. I have a gym .5 miles from my home and use it a lot.

Curious do any of you use home equipment on top of the gym?

Like right now, I am laying on my couch, but I would rather be outside benching.

Thoughts?

I do live some where it gets cold and rains in the winter and this would be outside. I have heat towers though.

Kel and AG have home gyms. They could lead you in the right direction.
My concern with you having a home gym is you would be training 23 hrs a day :)

I would just have a one type of unit. Then hit the gym still for more in depth training. But for those cold winter mornings not wanting to hit the actual gym, may be nice.

I would be hard AF!

Would love, but way big.

Go with the free weight one.

All depends on how much you want to spend and the space you have. Figure that out and start watching Craigs List in your area. People are getting rid of home gyms all the time, often dirt cheap and I've seen some advertised as "Free if you take it apart and get it out of my house." Or similar....

Akd I do everything from a storage unit. Fixing to move and get my own downstairs dungeon. Very exciting.
Weather is my biggest enemy working out of an open shed. Before, i did it all in my livingroom. Packing it away was a pain and setting up. If space is limited I would recommend a squat rack bench combo and free weights only.

That's what I was thinking! Is a squat rack bench combo. My space is not that big.

I am going for it. Worried about the rain, but I can hang something to enclose my patio. It's a covered eating area right outside my jack door which would be perfect.

Craigslist is still big here!!! I am watching for the perfect set!!! Do you suggest more free style? Or a machine with a cables?

Both, just depends on room. If you can find some Powerblock Dumbells they'd be a nice fit as well.

Cable for some stuff, but not a fan of the stack loaded machines. Personally, I steer away from the stack loaded machines because there's too much stuff to break/maintain? I prefer plate loaded equipment.
Craigslist, EBay, yard sales, LOL, I always try to keep an eye out for potential lifting purchases.

I have a very elaborate home gym and own more equipment than my gym. I can't get motivated and hence it all just sits there. It was a 20k gift and i feel horrible for not using it. Once I get home, I relax.

What do you all think of this? Selling it for 200.

It seems like it has everything. Any input on Paramount?

Make sure it has instructions. That will be a bitch to reassemble. Had a similar one. It took me a week after work to put together.

I'd stay more to free weights. The pulleys aren't as smooth as the ones at the gym. I sold it for scrap metal.

if you have a gym just a half mile away from you and still use it, i wouldnt commit to buying a ton of equipment.
at home i have a rack for press and squat, an adjustable bench (incline/decline) , 1 olympic barbell, 2 of each plate (5,10,25,35,&45), and a pairs of dumbells (5-30lbs)
also a power tower for pull ups &dips

Rogue does make good stuff. When I was looking around for a squat rack, I just missed out on a R-4 for $575 (if I recall correctly). Ended up with the Rae Crowther rack I found on EBay.

If you have any secondhand sports stores around, tbat is usually a decent place to score your Oly plates.
They usually ask .35/lb. to .50/lb., but you can generally get them down a bit from that? I gave .27/lb for my 100lb. plates ( got 4 of them in brand new condition). :)

When you have a gym close by,
You just need what I take with me on vacations and the like really;

-rubber band; every pull excersize can be done with some imagination
(Could also have several rubber bands of different thickness
-2 chairs ; from dips to incline push ups
-someplace to do pull ups; you can combine this with a chair to rest your feet on if you feel 100% of body weight is too much to train with.
-a "cleanish" floor; that explains itself

With these you can get pretty far IMO.

Those home gym apparatus things rarely gets used much when you got access to a real gym. As mentioned their cable systems often are a bit yucky.
But if you get one for nearly free, and doesn't mind the space it takes,
by all means.

I also vote free weights, and for the usage you describe id get a bench/squat rack combo similar to the bottom picture you first posted. I train at home, and used something like that for many years before finally upgrading to a full rack. This is what I had, very solid piece of equipment for the price.Attachment 170384

Some guy in my town is selling away a bunch of rusty, old plates. Cheapest I can get brand new is $0.90 per lb.

They are pretty odd looking but I don't mind, seller is asking for an offer, what would guys start with?

He's old too and doesn't remotely look like a bber. Maybe son stuff resumed from a garage.

Old plates can fetch a shit ton of money,especially odd ones.

They are Italian plates with a central hole measuring 25mm, no one manufactures them anymore, most commonly found in stores is 28mm. I still own a barbell that size, as well as dumbbells, so they can be useful to me, but it's another factor affecting price I believe.

Just stole 175lbs worth of plates plus four db bars for as cheap as $50.

The guy just wanted to get rid of them as last year he's torn a RC and can't train anymore.

Gear is not even in a bad shape, just a veil of rust that's easy to brush away and some wear on the edges.
