    Falcons and Hawks

I love falconing and hawking and have done it many times (but do not own my own bird). A friend sent me this today:

I think if I move to Mexico, as I would like, I'd like to transport my chickens with me in this way.

Although I might have enough air miles for business class.

My dad had a friend that did that all growing up. He talked about wanting to do it himself but never did. It was pretty cool to watch.

I saw a cool local group that had an hawk/falcon/eagle show, was pretty cool to see them up close and how well they can be trained

These birds of prey are amazing and I have read articles saying that they trained the birds to hunt as far back as ancient mesopotamia- so people have been training birds to hunt like this for almost 4000 years.

RC I haven't seen a hawk catch a rabbit (we have loads of bunnies in the countryside, so they must get them now and again), but the falcons hunt and catch birds in the air - which is amazing to see.

I have a photo somewhere of me flying a harris hawk...from a few years ago. I always hoped my kid would be interested in it, as that would give me the excuse to get a bird, but no such luck!
