    **Why do you train?**

Why do you go to the gym and put yourself through all that pain?

What motivates you to eat the clean foods and constantly go and lift weights?

Will you ever be satisfied with how you look?

What size would you like to be so your content?

Ive spent many many years doing things what many normal people would think are insane and as I grow older ( not as old as Kel by the way) I ask myself these questions often. With age my mind set has changed and my goals are different but please tell me at your stage "Why"?

I lift to maintain a balance and challenge myself. Doubt I will ever be satisfied with myself; I hate me.
Used to be all about size when I was younger, but now it is more of a combo of strength, size, and conditioning. Not so much for looks, but more for function.

    I train because I enjoy it and if I didn’t, I’d weigh probably 300lbs

I train because I can. It sounds sarcastic but it’s true. I had back surgery and had to learn to walk again.
It has turned into a lifestyle. I am very competitive and it has turned into me vs me in both the weight that I am pushing and appearance. The reward of being able to compete in B.B. at 51 and for many more years. Hell, most 20 y/o’s would look like crap in posing trunks. I feel that there is a health benefit however competing has its health risks.
I will probably never be the biggest person on stage, but having people compliment you and then ask how old you are makes one feel that it is worth the effort.
The moment that I am satisfied with myself, is the day that I end all of this. I am sure that day will come at some point, but hopefully not in the near future.

I don’t do it to look good, I don’t do it for health.... god knows the way we train and what we put into our bodies is not healthy. And girls don’t like the bodybuilder look... I do it for me. I love the discipline and I love seeing my body change. I’ve always wanted to be more than average and this is my way of achieving that. I’ve got a long way to go obviously but it gives me something to chase and something to look forward to.

I was always skinny growing up. My family were all big huge farmer. I was just tired of being skinny and shit. I remember going to the gym when I was like 5 or 6 and remember doing the lat pulldown machine. I was hooked from then on.

For 35 years I was ashamed to take my shirt off in public. I just wanted to loose fat and gain a little muscle to be comfortable shirtless or even look good in clothes.

Now it is just a lifestyle constantly trying to improve.
Moderation has never been a strong trait and do have an addictive personality so it's normally all or nothing with me.

12 years ago when I started working out I never would have dreamed I would be doing the things I am now at 47. By that I mean everything, lifting the weights I am or doing a comp on a forum.
I definitely never thought I would be sticking needles in my body and running cycles.

Would I do it again? Hell yes

You are where I want to be in two years. I’m 45, just retired from the Army (no longer subject to UCMJ but do have a clearance I need to protect) and looking to start another career do the same thing I did on active duty - traveling the world messing with bad guys. I’m on Test now and have never done a cycle in my life. Any tips for a cherry like me?

I wanted to be a walking freak of nature. I wanted size so much i dedicated all my life to putting on muscle that i turned heads everywhere i went. I dont mean a beach bodybuilder look i wanted super freaky size because size mattered so much to me when i was younger and nothing would stop me being the best i could be. I didnt really have any ambition to stand on stage even though i wss involved in competions it wasn't something what drove me. Women were a by product of size they came with it but again wasnt the main driver. Being bigger than anyone else was though. Strange how my mind as changed.

My mind set is different now but it definitely controlled me most of my life.

Because humans were never meant to be giant, soft, feeble sacks of shit. Unfortunately, modern life is entirely too comfortable. Gone are the days of any tangible hard living, at least in the first world. So that leaves me with two options: parachute into the middle of the Nevada wilderness and give it a go, or weight train. Option two is a bit more sensible.

Also, I spent over two decades as an obese sack of ass, and I honestly have no idea how I let myself feel like I did then for so long, without eating a bullet. I suppose that when you’re a slug from the age of eight, you just never know anything else. I’ll never go back, no matter what it takes.

it used to ground me well, empty me with good purpose to recharge and grow better, stronger and as a result bigger. Great way to re-calibrate my head, mindset and soul.
Eating well and lifting, its just a recipe to feeling better, looking better, feeling and being healthier in general, otherwise time spent will go to waste, body will get old and frail and will go to waste anyway, so why not use it more, use more of what you got to have more of what you can have, if one enjoys it - why not?

    Thats my take

As a young adult I had serious alcohol and substance abuse issues.

Weight lifting offered me a healthy alternative, a way to cope while also improving myself.

There will always be room for improvement, setbacks to be overcome, new goals to be reached.

I'm not even sure I even have an ultimate goal, though mass and aesthetics certainly play a part.

Why do I still train now? It's become a part of me. The desire to improve myself and how it makes me feel... it's more about the journey than the destination.

Nope. I made up my mind a while back that I’d sooner die than let myself revert to my previous state.

No matter how broke I became, there’s always heavy shit out in the world that can be used to train for free. I also don’t have any family concerns that could ever potentially hold me back.

I was inspired by my uncle who was a wheelchair Olympic athlete in the 76 games. He went to England for the disc and shot put..I wanted to look like and be just like him! Later on I found it to be a great stress reliever. A grew form of discipline and something I have total control over daily. Makes me feel young and satisfied to see results from hard work

I also am in the army as a 68w1P Spc at 19, I know I’m a little young to be doing it some say but I know a lot about it since I’ve seen all the bad side affects, first off since I don’t know what test you’re on I’ll just go over a general overview I’m sure you know the difference between the different tests and when and how to take them
Alright so here’s some medical knowledge that’s good to know. After 35 a majority of people starting producing a lot less test so you definitely want to be taking atleast 500mg a week I’ve seen people go up to 750 with the 350mg/1ml test e 2x a week, at your age getting a lot of size may be difficult but you will definitely get size and look real lean with proper dieting, an ai or pct isn’t a must till after cycle since your test is lower. Also be sure to take a liver aid such as milk thistle. I could go more in depth just message me for more info or questions

Man, its kinda reassuring and inspirational to read some of these posts. Like Charger, i had a pretty bad back injury from a car accident, had to have spinal surgery, walk with a walker for a long time. And like Diesel, for years prior to that- since a time long ago when i was hittin it hard and cycling in my 20's- i wouldnt be seen in public without a shirt on.
The problem with alot of people, is you dont know where to start, so you dont start at all, jist keep sittin on the couch eatin cheetoh's. Once i was mostly back to normal, i decided i was gonna start sonewhere, whether it was the best way to do it or not, and make the adjustments, put in the work, and make some sort of progress.

I guess by default i assume when i see a dude in good shape and ripped, that he had the motivation i didnt, started doing it 25 years ago, and i could never get to that point starting back at 40. But the more i talk to guys instead of assuming, the more i realize its just as attainable for me, and i have the goal of being able to walk around without a shirt on this summer, and if i can acheive that, then ill give myself the next goal
