    Hey, Lawn Guys...

Anyone use a reel cylinder mower? Most of you young folks probably never seen one. Anyway, I got one recently to try on my warm-season Bermuda grass. The result was pretty outstanding. Never seen my lawn so level. In fact, I've never been able to cut it so low without it yellowing.

Anyway, so now I'm looking at getting a gas-powered reel mower, because that's the manly thing to do. Have you ever used one of these? They look very awkward to use. Any recommendations?

Never have used a gas powered one,. but spent plenty of time pushing a manual hand me down mower as a kid. That mower and glass bottles used to be the ticket to my income!
Bermuda is tough to push through too, unless you keep it cut low!

I have never used a gas powered one either. If the blades are sharp they provide a cleaner cut. Here is a good comparison. https://www.lawnsmith.co.uk/topic/la...ry-lawn-mowers

Not one for grassy lawns - I prefer her to have hardwood floors, potentially a small landing strip or triangle. With enough hard work and determination you won't need anything gas-powered, battery-powered, or electric. Raw and relentless power will do. That'll level her out nicely.

Yellowing may be a sign of infection - pink is the ideal colour.

    How big is your yard?

Why not just get a decent self propelled one?

We had one of those in college, neighbors would look at us funny

Back is 4000 front is 1600 sqft.

I want a self propelled, gas engine one but they are 1200 bucks minimum! Need to justify it.

    $1200??? What kind is that?

Most self propelled mowers are around $300-800.

Not a reel mower. Reel mowers are expensive! I already have a rotary mower.

    Damn!

I can make a rotary mower dance on that grass! My $160 mower with a sharp blade can make the grass look like carpet!

I wouldn’t spend that kind of money unless it was Bermuda grass or something fine like that. That reel would get stuff in this jungle grass down here
