Ha!! A Friday and I'm the only one here! A car pulled up to the keypad at the gate but then left.
    Love it.

I took my 12 yr old daughter to the range yesterday for her birthday, she's like a junkie now. She burned through about 300 rounds of .22 through two different pistols. She tried a 9mm, but it spooked her a bit. I spent time with my shotgun, the ducks fly Saturday.

I'm working on my daughter, she's just getting ok to pull trigger on a daisy power line 1200. (One crack 1k fps, of course I charge it for her.)

She was fine till it dry fired once, it's loud with no pellet, like a 22lr. Took lots to get her back behind trigger.

Hey you guys remember the guy who gave his daughter a full auto Uzi or some smg at range and can't remember if it killed her, him, or both when it got away from her

That's fucked I was just remembering a group of range boo boo videos.

Like the one we're last and son went to range, she rented a pistol, shot her son in head then herself

This is why I preffer woods instead of public ranges.

That's one subject I gladly give the nod to Dr Gary K Roberts on. Doc Roberts is an assistant professor at Stanford University, an oral surgeon, a certified armorer and a retired a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserves (same as a Major in the Army) who specializes in analysis of real-world terminal ballistics. He also has done terminal ballistic and cartridge effectiveness studies for both civilian LEAs amd the military. He has a list of recommended duty loads that he maintains on several firearm, law enforcement and tactical websites under the screen name of DocGKR. And he uses his combination of military and medical credentials to get access to autopsy and emergency room reports from both the civilian and military communities and uses that information to determine a particular bullet's suitability to the list.

He breaks down the list by factory loads but it's not the load so much that counts as the bullet itself, so he also includes the specific bullet used by each load. I think now he automatically adds any bullet that passes the FBI's new 6-protocol approval test but they're still subject to removal if they don't prove effective in the field. I hand load most of my stuff, so that's how I use his information, a guidance in bullets to use for HD/SD loads.

I don't know of anyone else who comes anywhere close to having that breadth of access to information plus the experience and education to know what to do with it as Doc Roberts, and on top of that he shares it freely on the Interwebs.

Here's his list at AR15.com. It hasn't been updated in a couple of years now, which I take to mean there hasn't been any significant new information since then.

Winchester Ranger and Speer Gold Dots show up repeatedly in all the calibers he considers so they both look like safe bets. That's why I load more Gold Dots than anything else (but I've got several 10mm magazines laying around that are stuffed with Black Talons).

That's why I like the new talon the "PDX 1"

    Black talon is unbonded
Ranger t is unbonded talon sans lubalox coating.
    Pdx1 is bonded ranger.

I've played with jugs and plywood. The pdx1 8 out of 10 times expands , few times it plugged up.

The Hydra shok (not HST) IMHO, sucks.

The ftx, well never seen it not expand.

This was all done with a 3.5" 45 acp millennium pro. So everything was subsonic leaving that tube..

Pdx won in my crude fun tests.

For rolling my own, Speer Gold Dots and Hornady XTPs work well for me.

If for some reason I purchase off the shelf (rarely), Magtech First Defense CDHP and surprisingly, the PMC Starfires perform decently.

Edit: I was given a box of Hornady Personal Defense... horrible performance, IMHO.

I don't buy anything fancy for my primary carry. Only use 180gr fmj for practice. Some of those rounds are neat looking, but proper shot placement is paramount regardless.

Long gun and hunting are a different story. Have to take into account distance, body comp, and desired wound channel.
I wear a Hornaday ball cap. Their sst is a well engineered projectile.

Our his and hers Glock 19s are loaded with Federal HST 147gr. Speer Gold Dots are also excellent. I'm still fond of Hornady XTP bullets, though I think they are generally outclassed by more modern bullet designs.

Just got my new Alien holster and double spare mag holder. Stuff is well built and thought out. Many adjustments, very cool. Does anyone else have a hard holster? Every time I draw and put it back in it sounds rough, almost like its going to wear my gun out.
