Coping mechanisms
Got any tics? Replacement behavior? Habitual illogical movement?
Tourettes
Nailbiting
Chronic negativity/lack of positive affirming nature
Rocking
Leg jiggling
Finger tapping
Hair pulling
I try to be aware of shit I do so I don't annoy the people around me. I have stress cope mechanisms I try to hide and do pretty well.
I trade off because I get pissed at myself for doing it and break myself of it for some time and wind up replacing it with another habit.
One week I will catch myself biting or sucking on my lower lip and I get pissed and stop. Then I will start pressing forward on my front teeth with my tongue until my teeth are loose. Then I wind up stopping that and chewing on moustache hairs (this is a hands free practice and they are my hairs). Some weeks I just bite down until my jaw aches.
It all very subltle shit that annoys the crap out of me. How many others suffer with this sort of lunacy?

Too many to list
Jaw popping, knuckle popping along with just about anything else like my back
I am working on chasing these off - but, it's easier said than done

I will carry my pen in my hand and click it in and out or I will open and close my zippo lighter non stop.

Something you guys don't know about me. Tourettes. Not "fuck fuck cunt" type.
But a twitch and grunt type. Only when stressed

Tourettes is very understandable in my mind.
If I get drunk my anxiety peaks for days afterward and I inadvertently blurt shit out without really realizing it. That one pisses me off!
Ex wife thought I was nuts. Gf can tell what it is though and doesn't bother responding.

did you ever consider that the habits may NOT be anything related to 'coping mechanisms' or 'deep seated mental stressors', etc.. but perhaps simply an over stimulation of the SNS (Sympathetic nervous system) , which then carries over to the PNS (Peripheral nervous system . . . going to anything from the arms, legs, feet, fingers, tongue, etc..).
AND that this over stimulation is possibly from continual use of Ephedrine, Red Bulls, Caffeine, etc.. or other SNS stimulators.
example - When beta agonist compounds are utilized, the body releases adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, which is secreted due to stimulation of the sympathetic nerves.
when you take a couple atenolol and relax , do your 'habits' seem to settle down ?
just throwing out a different angle here for you to consider Obs (I personally have not F'ing clue

I'll just say it how it is -
Most of mine seem to be drug caused - Which is kind of a good thing, since chasing off the dope seems to be getting rid of my twitches
But, plenty of folk that I know are drug free but seem to be full of random spasms/twitches
