Idk how much my opinion counts being a newbie but I can definitely get behind that. I will be having my wife take my pics next time with her camera instead of my iphone

    Almostgone,
Even though I didn't do as well in this comp as I wanted to (100% on me) I did ok being the oldest (pulling that card). But you kinda alluded to it in your statement that my pics were easy to judge and that probably helped me. With that said when people come here and look at the finished comps they want to see the pics. Lets say I go back to last years comps it's almost impossible to find all the pics. If I could see the pics right up front on the first page and I see the amazing transformation of Cape, then when reviewing the 68 pages of posts I may look for information that he used to achieve the transformation.

If I can help in anyway just let me know and I will do what I can. It's this damn helpful attitude that kinda hindered my progress a bit. I have been working a lot of hours helping my neighbor/friend remodel his house. I have missed more days at the gym in the past month than I would have liked to because of this.

Not much of a shit talker but I’ve got to say I’m happy not coming in last. It was a last minute decision to enter and missed the last whole week and a couple days in the gym before final pics so I’m sure that dropped me a spot maybe 2. I learned a lot. Next time I’ll be coming for top 3

A lot of great ideas and thoughts. I’ll start a tread to discuss how to make the cops better in a little while. We have a good thing but can make it better. Bethdoth made a great point. In the past past each competitor would have his own thread. This was good but seemed to take away from everyone being in one spot. Maybe 2 threads. One competitors only logs and pics and a comp thread where competitors and spectators talk q&a bullshit etc.

I personally like the idea of separate logs for the competitors where they can post progress pics, diet, training
Keep the main thread for q&a and banter

Ya I suppose not everyone has a PC now a days and do everything from their phone. Then each phone is different so instructions would be different on each.

Actually, I just purchased a laptop because my old one was way too slow. It would take like 20 minutes to load up.

I'm not sure about a completely different log? I think people post progress pics for some positive feedback and don't know if they would get much attention if in a separate log location. I'm sure when you start the new thread we will get a ton of great ideas.

That was my point. We did it that way in the past and there wasn’t as much of a following.

Totally agree an "album" of sorts at the beginning of the the thread would be awesome. Then if people want to read the background activity bduring the contest they could dive into reading the thread.

You're doing good wasn't because your pics were laid out nicely, you definitely made noticeable improvement. It's just so much easier to judge when the pics are seruo in a format like you did. Much, much easier to contrast/ compare the before and after pics that way. Also agree with the mandatory pose requirement. That way you're compare an " apple" to a newer, improved "apple" instead of just a random pic.

Has anyone ever read where the Participation Throphy came from? Fascianting story as the study from the professor had literally nothing to do with giving everyone a medal but more about comparing your progress towards only the individual themselves to better be able to evaluate students and help them forward.

The ideology destoys honor systems and creates a society of weak people that cant handle not being socially accepted. In my opinion the cream will rise and shit will sink regardless.

We live in a world where teens get bullied online and kill themselves or go to school and shoot the place up because they feel unaccepted and the need to lash out for no place to fit in. I see how that could make them feel special and help them fit in but I don't really think the participation trophy means anything anyway. If everyone has one they wont really see it as special either.

Honestly dont think it makes a moment worth of diffetence to a teen but for a young kid I can see that they would appreciate and reflect upon it so it would be a good thing.

Definitely helps with some kids. The pressure these days (at least progressing educationally & with social media) is ridiculous. Many of my kids that have attempted suicide, were not "weak" kids, they just got overwhelmed. But with that said, of course life will continue to overwhelm them and at some time they will have to adapt in order to succeed as adults.

There is no ideology as far as I know just a bunch of misguided people who misinterpreted a decent scientific paper that I think could help kids perform better.

Indeed wasnt cutting it down so much as saying I dont think its that effective at anything.

    Not jumping on the bandwagon.
My son recieved a participation trophy that he earned. It wasnt his fault everyone else on his team sucked lol.

He was pulling other kids into their positions on the field when they werent paying attention.

I do feel there are times participation trophies are justified and are beneficial, but I'm referring to venues like the Special Olympics. Those competitors deserve some recognition....all of them..

On the other hand, just awarding participation trophies just so "each competitor" is a winner sets kids up for failure. At some point they have to learn not everyday is going to be a winner. For intance if 3 people are trying out for 1 job opening, I feel it is unfair to teach them everyone is going to come out a winner. I don't know, maybe I'm the product of an outdated mentality.

Again, in the case of the mentally challenged children, I think they should each get a participation trophy or special recognition.

Just my old, out of date, thoughts on it.

You aren’t out dated. You are either a winner or you’re not. Doesn’t mean you are a loser. You just didn’t win this time. You learn how to handle failure or defeat.

I know it just seemed appropriate to point out.

I never heard a rich guy say money cant buy happiness or money isnt everything.

I feel participation trophies have their place like previously stated special olympics. However, giving everybody one creates a sense of entitlement that now matter how bad you sucked or didn’t even try you should reap the same rewards as someone who busted their ass to get where they are. I feel it’s a big reason we have all these snowflakes and people working at McDonald’s expecting 15hr nowadays
    German89 and Family_guy like this.

I showed up at work this morning. Didn’t get a trophy. Haven’t gotten my trophy for participating yet today.
