You're offered $300,000 to buy an exotic car. What would you buy?

I never once dreamed of owning an exotic car. The CTS-V is as close as I get to a supercar. But today.... I drove a 2018 Ferrari 488 GTB. Wow. What a ride! Completely consumed me. I mean, for the 6 minutes that I got to take it on the highway and back, it took away any and all stresses in my life for those few moments. What an exhilarating feeling. I mean, last time I felt this way was when I went skydiving.

What car would you get if you were given a $300k Budget.

    Wow, that’s a good question...

If I had 300k to spend on a car. I think I would pump it into a 67 Camaro or Firebird and do a full on Resto-mod with modern EFI and twin turbo. I just love muscle cars.

I’ve never driven an exotic so maybe that would change my mind though.

At first just sitting in the car, it's like something from the future. So much sight-seeing just in the cockpit. The engine start sounded amazing, unlike any other rumble I've heard from inside a car. When I took it out I turned right onto the access road and then gunned it. The car swerved ever so slightly and corrected itself. It's like... telling me it's OK.

But when I reached the freeway, I slowed down to about 75 and then hit it again. Glued to the seat and what seemed like mere seconds, I look down and I'm doing just under 160. The car was SOLID. Didn't really feel like 160mph and gives you confidence to go more.

The brakes are incredible. I braked on a corner when making a uturn around a bridge and it's as if I could feel the car braking with varying pressure on each wheel. Hard to explain, but again... gives you that confidence.

One final launch before reaching my destination, this time from 0 to 100 in a flash. No hesitation, no excessive swerving, no roll, stiff steering wheel, transmission shifts faster than my CTS-V, which is the fastest shifting production car under $120k. Just unbelievable.

That was a great description, TY. Sometimes I read the articles in car mags and they lose me.

All the exotics I encounter out here seem high revving. I like low end rumble myself.

Is a 1974 Oldsmobuick exotic? If so, I would opt for that and keep the change...I'm poor.

It's true, it's a huge jump from let's say - A DD to a V or a AMG, then it's another leap when you step into full on exotics.

you couldn't afford a Lambo Avantador with only 300k in your pocket . you'll need a good 120k more.

personally, I'm more about form and function then flash . I'll go with a Porsche GT2 Rs. cost 293k . heck I'll have 7k leftover to use for future speeding tickets.

the 488 isn't a bad choice by any means though. a Lambo Huracan can be had at a budget quite a bit under that 300k

well shit, it never occurred to me to even think about going used when you got that kinda money in your pocket .

thats probably why I no longer have shit for savings $ cause I blew it all on 'new' cars off the showroom floor. Roush mustang, Audi A7, Land Rover, Mercedes CLS63 AMG (that one was like 130k), Corvette C7, Camaro SS1LE.. fuck even my crew cab diesel Trucks and about 10 motorcyles were bought new.

for a fraction of all that I could of bought a used Avantador and still kept my savings account going it definitely pays off to be 'frugal' even if you do have a big budget to spend. no wonder I can't afford Growth hormone anymore !

Depends on who you are. . . different strokes for different folks

If I had 5 mil free & clear, I can see myself dropping 200k on a car. Not to mention, I'd still turn around & sell it anyway.

Didn’t you have a ZL1? That car beat almost every Ferrari and lambo on the nuramburg ring. Bad ass car.

But I guarantee you if I throw some bigger injectors in this bitch and get a bigger turbo we can push 800mph easy....

    I'd buy 10, 1969 Dodge Charger's.

Weld the doors shut, paint them all orange, and recreate every episode of the Dukes of Hazzard.

I have to break my purchases up, I would buy the DeLorean, then I buy the desert eagle then I would have a 24 karat gold Snoopy pendant made about as big as my torso and I would drive around in the DeLorean doing drive-bys on the cat next door

The problem is (for me), at that price point, you're looking at lambos, Ferraris, Mercedes, Aston Martin, etc. Which is either luxury cars or paying for the name, as you can get cars just as fast for half the price.
Unless you want something that a 3rd party souped up (which I am not a fan of either, unless we are talking Hennessy which is out of the price range).
I would rather pay half that for a Dodge viper acr, Ariel atom v8 (although not street legal), gtr nismo, nsx, r8, Vette zr1, etc
If you want to talk 1mil plus. We can talk about paganis and Hennessy venoms all day!

I like that look a lot. The contrast of the hood is sweet. Nice ride!

I like NA, can’t stand a hint of lag. Love immediate & sick torque. I’ve never been into driving fast, doesn’t do it for me. But getting to 30 or 40 in literally a blink of an eye . . . .

    Yes & no

I drove a bi turbo v8 c63 AMG - that shit was pretty cool. . . Not something I can currently afford tho. So, a domestic v8 is the best bang for buck in this price range. Loved this thing when I got to drive it around for 20 bucks a day.
