Career/life changes
So, my life went into a different direction this year and a different path. I lost my job and I am no longer an engineer. I am also doing good on money which will last for a while but there is one problem, I am not able to find another engineering job right now and I don't know how long this will continue but I do have a plan and basically will have to move home

I’m back in car sales now it’s actually not too bad I’ll take this over and either become sales manager in a few months or move on to something else. Just be positive and do everything you can that is in your control.

What's everyone so scared of? I'll rebuild after this and I'm not done yet, frankly once I rebuild I'll never be the punching bag again, I guess im one of those guys you can just punch until he snaps one day but should have fought back day one
What do, keep working and trying to rebuild what i have built and failed at because of others. How many of you been through a career breakdown before?

I have. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.... In retrospect. At the time, it was terrifying.
I worked for a small family owned design company... I was happy as hell, and life was great. Had a new wife and a baby... I felt like a grown up. In the span of about 2 years a bunch of India based company's popped up doing a crappier versions of our work, but at about a quarter of price. Before you know it, I was on unemployment with a resume that held no value in the Midwest, sitting on a bachelor's degree in F'ing history (facepalm), trying to pay the mortgage on a house we just built.. for no money down that we couldn't afford.
I would have stayed at that job forever, I was so happy. But thankfully, I got a lower paying job in a cool place. They helped me get back into school, and I was able to move around within the company, and grow.
I'm not nearly thankful enough for being laid off back then.
No one here will be able to tell you what to do... It's up to you to keep moving and to seize opportunities as they arrive, weather that's in your engineering field, or somewhere unexpected.
I truly wish you the best of luck,
C-

I've made major changes a couple of times.
Choose your goals & work towards them. I'm more guilty as the next person in terms of letting other's opinions affect me, but not in choices as these.
I've read your posts for months. You clearly have the drive & discipline.
Once I was married, this changed, but prior?
F-everyone. It's you, it's your life.

I have had 3 major career changes so far
With what I do now - I am at the most pay, but also I also deal with the highest of stress of the previous 2
Currently I am considering another full on career change - it’s just not as easy to do as it once was when I had no one aside from myself depending on me
Best advice - figure it out < I know, it’s not helpful worth a shit

I paid my bills off, bought a house with the last 10G and moved to Florida. Had to live off CC's for 3 months but we eventually got jobs and life is good.
There was nothing left for me where I grew up, it was time to move on and start fresh........maybe its time for you. Go somewhere there is lots of work......Florida is booming, 300,000+ people moving here a year.

Thinking about taking on a less time consuming job. It’s a bit of a paycut, but work has really been getting in the way of my lifting lately.

I had to move back in with my mom when I was 30 with my daughter who was 5 at the time when I got laid off.
Gotta keep moving forward bro. I’m 33 now, married with two beautiful little girls and obviously working again. Made a temporary career change until I was able to get back doing what I was doing prior. Got to love the fucking oil field lol
