Using "these" times to better myself

So in the beginning of the pandemic my life didn't change much, pretty much just less people around me at work, the MX parks I usually road at were closed and have to wear a mask/being more germ cautious (I was already a bit of a germaphob and hermit). But now as The Corona circles itself around me, slowly closing in, I'm starting really think about life........but in a good way. I feel I need to be at my best right now to get through this, things need to change within me and the way I am. So I came up with things I need to cut out of my life, change or start doing. Now this is being done in stages, I started this a little while ago, things that were causing issues at home, my wife and I weren't getting along to well. So here are the first few things.....

    1. Porn
    2. Sugar
    3. Think about what comes out of my mouth before I say it
    4. Not care about asshole people.....so this evolved into something greater, stop being involved with people at work, reading the horrible news (even the UFC news everyone was fighting with each other over $$$$), not getting pissed in traffic, REMEMBERING I AM TO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED

Now SO much stress has been lifted from me, like I exhaled a huge stress ball, now things are falling back in place. Thinking back yesterday, I realized Im ready to start some new one's......keep progressing. Im very unhappy with my body, when I first got to Florida I said I was going to train at home, so I used a total piece of crap total gym. Well it finished off my shoulder, suffice to say I stopped training...........over 20 years straight! Its time, so I started dieting (because with me I have to diet in order to train) and lost 5-7lbs. I trained/stretched for the past 3 days and Im already starting to feel better. Got my Bp down below/at 130, its been 140+ since getting here and losing the "chipmunk" cheeks and have 3 1/2 abs. So here is my next few things.

    1. Exercise everyday (bike ride at 3 times a week)
    2. Diet better everyday ( I dont care if its just saying no or not eating something that wont help my goals)
    3. Show my wife some affection everyday
    4. Compliment her once a day also

    Ill update this with time.

Everyone feel free to make a list, add to it, make like a log if you want or just post something positive you did or even heard. Im going to make this like a log and reminder to me. LETS MAKE THIS A POSITIVE THREAD IN A NOT SO POSITIVE TIME ! I tired of read dreadful crap.

Proud for you, buddy. I'm in very much the same place training wise. Right now it's mainly cardio, physical therapy twice per week, and waiting to be scheduled for another MRI.

Doing roughly the same thing with all the media flying around right now. Instead of paying attention to the "clickbait" headlines, I just search for very specific topics that I'm hunting for. I've put a limit on the network news pages.

I have been off of the Pepsi Max drinks and only drink one cup of coffee per day. Other than that, it's pretty much all water.

    A little more about it.....

As some of you know I have my Faith, one thing its taught me is take good from the bad. So I was trying to think what Yah wants me (us) to take from this "season" . We need to slow down, enjoy our families, enjoy life and not just full steam ahead. We were so busy we say we never have time to this or do that............BUT GUESS WHAT.....we do now!!!!!!! Im going to try to make the best of out of this, Ive already felt the depressed version and FUCK that, Im going to be happy, Im going to keep forging ahead.

I think so; at least some answers. Really fortunate to have kept insurance coverage throughout this whole pandemic mess. We would have been in a bind if it weren't for that. Imaging, trigger point injections, adjustments, physical therapy, nerve conduction studies, the $$ rack up fast, but you are absolutely correct. Take time to stop and be grateful for what we have now and we'll realize how blessed we are.

    My head up my ass!
No energy, lethargic and I had issues before hand including a torn tricep and rotator cuff which took nearly a year to sort out....
Fuck what a grumpy horrible Cunt I was....
Started to force myself to get on my bike eod and me and my girlfriend just bought another dog :-)
Have weights and benches here so I have been keeping myself going when I’ve had the energy...
My daughter has been living with us also since the lockdown so that’s a big positive in my life now...
Starting to feel positive again little by little day by day
I’ve been going to sleep with a smile on my each and every night as the woman I lay with is such a positive influence......:-)
I want to enjoy the rest of my life as we don’t get a second chance at this gig...
The gyms here are opening over the next couple of weeks so I’m going to hit it again....

A strong lady/family on your life makes all the difference in the world. I know Mrs. AG is the reason I keep coming home.

When you get time, post up pictures of the new pup! I told Mrs. AG the breed y'all were discussing and she broke into a huge smile

Agreed, this time can be used to better ourselves.

Mate this was me, 100%. My wife and I were bickering like 70 year olds and I felt that old. Between the virus and the two political parties ripping our country apart over power I broke. Im disconnecting, going in my own little bubble. BTW wtf is a swanny?

Im so happy i have a wife that really dont give a rats ass about my pornhabbits.
And she dont need sex either. Guess im just lucky.
What did u just say? Your wife dont claim sex and u call yourself lucky?
Yes indeed. Who wants to fuck a woman in the 18 th year of the relationship. Its so pathetic to do it because u think u should. .. We have love lying together in sofa with Netflix and pizza. With clean house and payed bills.

Great thread BG and I’m glad you are getting the opportunity to spend more time at home with the wife and things are good...I wish I had something to add but I’m “essential” so I have been putting in ridiculous hrs but I am not complaining because I have a job and am not hurting by any means but that said I need a big break/vacation but the work isn’t slowing and I no if I don’t do the job someone else will...

Eating a pre workout meal and heading to the gym for the first time since March...fucking nervous!

The journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step I suppose. Time to be humble and accept life for what it is...

Finally ready to start my adventure back into bettering myself instead of just sitting around thinking about.

Fingers crossed (come on muscle memory, don’t fail me now).

My gym's been closed for 3.5 months and it opens again on Friday.

For the past 3.5 months my workouts have been:
    Mon - Thur : Run 10km, do 30 press-up's twice a day, do 13 chin-up's twice a day
    Fri : Press-Up's and Chin-Up's
Sat - Sun : Maybe some rollerblading and yoga

I don't wanna wreck myself on my first week back lifting, so here's what I'll do on my 1st day back:

Bench press - Just the bar without weight (i.e. 20kg)
Deadlift - Just the bar without weight (i.e. 20 kg)
Squat - Just the bar without weight (i.e. 20kg)
Lie down hamstring curls - Very light
    Bicep curls - 8kg
Tricep pulls - light (approx. 8kg)
    Shoulder front lifts - 5kg
    Shoulder side lifts - 5kg

I'll go very light like this for a day or two, and then I'll put a little weight on (e.g. bench 40kg, deadlift 40kg squat 40kg).

I like being able-bodied and so I'm not gonna fuck myself up by lifting too heavy too soon after 3.5 months of inactivity.

I'm really looking forward to the Parkrun starting back, I've been running 40 km per week for a few months now so I should put in a good time.

I havent got the bike riding in......I dont know we were doing it a few times ew last month but I just dont have the drive. I have an urge to run, but I know my body isnt built for it anymore, plus its a bitch to start, I would probably jog 20 feet the have to walk.

Now Im thinking maybe a calisthenic online work out?

Anybody have good ideas on good cardio to do at home?

If you can bench 315 lbs after a round of chemo then you should phone the World Health Organisation and tell them you wanna volunteer your body for Ebola trials...... Ebola kills more than half of people but I reckon you're able for it. You could save Africa.

You guys would shun me if I told you what my all-time maximum bench press is. At least I can run a marathon (even if it takes me 6 hours), and I'm not half-bad at Thai boxing.

I'm not saying that you did that on purpose, but I've definitely done that on purpose before. . . I've gone maybe 2 or 3 weeks without lifting and then walked into the gym and deliberately murdered myself knowing full well how sore I'd be after it. I almost wanted the punishment.

After a break of 3.5 months though, and now that I run consistently run 25 miles per week, I'm really gonna go easy for a few days when I start back lifting on Friday. It will be the empty bar (i.e. just 20kg in total) for bench, deadlift and squat on the first day.

A nice 40 minute walk might not be the worst thing. Slowly pick up the pace of find a hill. A HS track is a great place too. Run the straights and walk the turns, just an idea BG.

As for cardio at home, there’s a lot of free content right now. YouTube, Xfinity On demand are a couple that have some cardio “classes” that can be in the living room. Could also buy a jump rope and make a few stations at home.

    1) jump rope 45 seconds. 2) mountain climbers for 45 seconds, 3) plank for 45 seconds 4) 30 push ups
    5) Hagglers or crunches or high knees for 45.

Then repeat on no rest for 3 rounds. Some sort of routine like that just to get the heart pumping.

It wasn’t on purpose, and although the soreness reminds me that I at least did something yesterday. I absolutely overdid it. Too late now though. I should’ve listened to The deadlifting dog and been easier on myself.

I just went from the strongest of my life in March to utter misery in a short time. Just wanted to see what I had. I’ll be fine...

I was like 16 weeks without doing anything. I thought I was taking it easy (pussy weights) and holy shit. I had muscles hurting that I forgot existed. LOL
Everyone will make it back because that’s what we do.
I understand you. I doubted myself... can I still do this??
Fuck yes I can. The new and improved version is about to begin. We are not quitters despite what is thrown our way.

What's funny to me about this whole thing...

    In powerlifting:
By meet day we are usually pretty banged up and going 100% on three different lifts can really strain the body. So it is fairly common to take 1 to 2 weeks off after a powerlifting meet. (Think 40-60% of max weight for low reps. Really easy stuff.)

    Anyway...
Just 2 weeks off of any real training leads to DOMS.
I can't even imagine how much I would hurt after months and months off...

    Excited for your comeback.

How did those hamburgers treat you? I eat fast food burgers ~ 6-8 weeks and the aftermath is..... disgusting. Don't touch them again until I forget what it does to me.
