    Volunteer for Childline

I'm considering becoming a volunteer as one of the people who answer the phones for ChildLine. Does anyone have any experience with this? I figure a typical call will be some 7-year-old kid calling to say that their mother's boyfriend is hitting them, or maybe an 11-year-old girl saying that the other girls at school are bullying her.

Dont take it personal slice but I wouldnt want you talking to my kid, cant vouch for others. Maybe volunteer firefighting would be something more up your alley?

At 5'3" I'm too short to be a firefighter.

Different things are appropriate in different situations. Obviously the things I joke about on this board -- e.g. cartel gore videos -- aren't appropriate in a conversation with a 7-year-old girl who has called the line because she hasn't had dinner in two days because her father gambled the food money.

It starts out at 4 hours a week, so for example my slot might be every Thursday from 9pm until 1am answering calls, something like that.

I've already been fully vetted by the police for doing stuff like this. So next I presume there'll be some sort of volunteer training on how to handle different types of calls.

It did occur to me that there might be a feeling of helplessness for me personally if the kid on the line won't tell me where they are and what their name is, in a situation where I really need to call the police. That won't be nice.
