Joe Rogan makes an interesting point here, like how does one define success? Do most men live in quiet desperation?

The first two of Buddhism's four noble truths are, simply, all life is suffering, and selfish desire is the root of that suffering.
The final two points deal with their remedy for the suffering but the first two are pretty self-evident. There's even a western corollary to those two points, happiness comes not from having what you want but wanting what you have.
And we live in a world where materialism if out of control. People who already have lives cluttered with stuff they never needed in the first place are obsessed with getting still more.
Which is also why some people have an all-consuming jealousy of anyone with more than them and think that it's inherently unjust for somone to have more than anyone else.
Desperate? Probably. Quiet? Hell no.
Thinking is a very bad habit.
