Beastie Boys Book & Dopesick Series

I know addiction to meds is a sensitive topic here & not trying to be inflammatory. But DopeSick on Hulu covering the OxyContin mess has been incredible. Damn, the casting is phenomenal!

Just finished this book, perhaps one of the most entertaining books I’ve ever read. Written by the 2 remaining members - the stories, anecdotes & information are nothing short of incredible if you are a Beasties fan.

Made it to episode 4 of dope sick and had to turn it off…too triggering. It was well made though.

I’ll check the book out, have seen the BB’s in concert more than 20 times (nothing better than Red Rocks. Ok, maybe at the Garden)
At the top ever for me.

Have you seen the BB Story with Spike Jonze on Apple TV? It’s amazing.

I believe you’re referring to “The Crime of the Century”. That was basically the real life version (documentary) of the same story as “Dope Sick”. The COTC was done really well also.

The Sackelr family is a bunch of fucking criminals and got off easy, although they were bankrupted, they miraculously avoided jail time. Not a great look for big pharma.

They’re also the lovely family that created and pushed Valium in the 50’s and literally created their own “disease” to get housewives addicted before there was any oversight. Just crazy…

And yes, Metallica and the BB? Shit, it gets no better. May as well throw the RHCP into that discussion for bands that blew my mind in the 80’s

I’ll definitely look for the documentary. Damn, 20+ times?!?

Being older sucks sometimes, but seeing some of these bands in the 80’s (and 70’s) was/is a cool thing.

Always really dug Michael Keaton as well. He is impressive in this role (as are most/all of the other actors in this show). The guy playing Sackler is amazing.

He’s a sleazy fuck, really good actor (Michael Stuhlbarg)

He plays an amazing gangster as well in a show called
“Your honor” with Bryan Cranston. He’s so good in that role too. In fact so is Bryan Cranston, it’s awesome if you haven’t seen it

Oh hell yeah, just radiates sleeve and not caring about ruining lives. Just googled the guy, didn’t know his background. With a beard the dude is a Joaquin Phoenix double.

I’d heard that was a great show; it’s a double win cause it was something the wife wanted to watch as well - thank you. Still crack up at watching Bryan Cranston in “Malcolm in the Middle”. I’m hoping that they work him into “Better Call Saul”.

Beastie beastie boys getting live on the spot, puttin all kinds of shame in that game you got, we keep the party moving till the broad daylight, G-E-T-L-I-V-E alright!!!

That line has been stuck in my head all day, no clue why.

Damn S&D, that's a hell of a resume you got with them. There are all kind of cool interviews with Ad-rock and Mike D floating around on youtube. It's also pretty cool watching reaction videos of people listening to their music for the first time.

Wango I may read that book... I say "may" because I'm very bad at finishing books. Got about 20 unfinished books on my iBooks app.

Well, the book is 500+ pages. That said, I have ADD & have a difficult time concentrating. The book is written as 1-3 page individual stories that chronologically talks about their history, but there are so many goofy stories it’s vey easy to read and not stop. And just a crap load of pics.

DopeSick book kicked ass as well, so I ordered another. Just released, it’s chronically covering the Meth and Fentanyl epidemic. Regarding Meth, there are real dudes that sound like Walter White from breaking bad was based on them. Fentanyl wise, this stuff is scary nasty, I mean other worldly f’d up. Originally it was as easy to order a kilo of it from China on the internet, as it was as to get as AAS, and it’s mailed to your doorstep. The dosages are broken up so minute that you can become your own drug czar overnight. Problem is once you’ve taken it (a lot of times unknowingly) it’s so good, you know you are playing Russian roulette with your life every time willingly. Most chilling statement from an ex-dealer turned rehab volunteer when asked about chronic Fentanyl users? “There are none, everyone dies. “Good” news is grown opium is becoming antiquated, so f-you Afghanistan.

I watched Dopesick on Disney+ (found a proper Kodi addon here). As this series is about the worst drug epidemic in American history, I find it to be very relevant. Though I didn't read the book. Usually, I read the book and then watch a movie or series, so I don't know whether reading the book after watching the tv series is worth it.

I would agree about not choosing to read the book DopeSick.

You may enjoy the book called “The Least of Us” by Sam Quinones. It continues the crisis after the oxy became far less available & now there was a whole new generation of addicts that needed to get high. So along comes cheap heroin, meth with a new cooking style called P2P that did not require ephedrine (crack downs on that availability as well) and was far more destructive. And then the entrance of Fentanyl (thanks China ). Yes, a truly disgusting epidemic that has no solution.

Oh, thanks for the recommendation! It always takes me time to find a new good book to read. “The Least of Us” sounds to be a good choice.

Glad I could offer a suggestion. The book is sad as hell though, so many ruined or lost lives. Currently reading about the writing of the book “The Godfather” and the making of the movie. Can’t put it down.

I think the book, too, download soon from the same torrent client, as I saw it there.
Heavy & difficult indeed. You can also thank the Sacklers for leaving a huge void of addiction/addicts that needed fulfillment. Enter cheap Mexican Meth & Heroin and the ultimate mf’r that is on a monster killing spree via OD’s; Fentanyl from China.
