Helping my nieces with Math, need advice

    Hi all!!!

I am currently in charge of my two nieces' education since their mom (my sister, single mom) works full time and I am fortunate to stay at home for work so I help them in the afternoons with homework and the likes.

One of my nieces is in the autistic spectrum and she is now having some issues with math. She is a brilliant kid, don't get me wrong, but the pandemic truly has affected her since she lost her dad to covid in 2020 and to make things worse, the educational environment she was used to is completely changed.

I truly want to help my niece during this time (actually, to all my two nieces and sister, that is why I moved in with them).
So the first thing I did was to register her in an online academy which was recommended to me called StudyPug, and it has been a great aid!!! My niece is in high school and she is now preparing for her tests and the content in the site is truly amazing. But that one is a paid membership, and sure we can keep it, but I would like to have some other materials to offer her and not breaking the bank.

Any recommendation you have on this?
Math for high schoolers, besides Khan academy, what else can I find out there?

Sorry about the situation with their dad, but you do realize this is a steroid forum, right? Reddit would be a better place to ask this type of question. Good luck, you’re doing a good thing (if this isn’t a troll, which I kind of think it is).

Teaching & learning on-line is tough. But, throw in special needs such as autism, it can be a nightmare. Are there one on one tutors available? College kids? Teachers looking for extra $? Long time high school teacher here, you are looking at a very tough situation, sorry to say. Add the father passing? This is tragic, sorry for your pain.

If this were my student, the last thing I’d think that relative to her classmates she should feel “blessed”. Not after a death & what she is facing educationally (particularly now) that’s going to impact her future.

You don't get the whole point of Christianity. No matter what happens in your life, you only ever focus on the good that God is doing in your life.

Now, more than ever, that little girl should feel blessed, and thankful to God. Every day she wakes up, she should begin with a prayer of appreciation.

    Go get saved, Prox.

Prox has a get out of Hell free-card. Prox has taught the sick to walk again; to transfer on & off from their wheel chair, bed, toilet; to use a spoon to eat or pick up a glass to drink. Prox has taught thousands of kids to be good citizens & stay healthy. God has assured Prox he is good to go.

All joking aside and on a very serious note, Prox and myself are deeply spiritual beings that have a relationship with the higher power above.

Your sentiments are appreciated. We’re the lepers not still alive? Was the blind man still alive? Christ would take pity on this young girl & not remind her of the “good” that she is blessed with.

No matter which religion you take on, it should give you good vibes and positive thinking.

Life isn't that long, really. I mean it's not like we're here for five thousand years. in the 75 years that we have, positive thinking is better than negative thinking.

That little girl has four limbs that work, and she doesn't have locked-in syndrome. She doesn't have four seizures every day. She isn't on the waiting list for a new heart. Her local community is not ruled by the Taliban.

Call it philosophy or call it religion, but good vibes and positive thinking are rooted in always being grateful for what you have, no matter how little or shit it is.

Oh and by the way, you will never have done enough for God. Your good works are filthy rags. The Bible tells us that there is none good.

33 posts in 5 years and 10% of those posts are on this thread alone. “Troll” may be the incorrect nomenclature but “alter ego” or “split personality” may be more aptly suited…

Totally makes sense to ask a steroid forum how to best meet the needs of your nieces mathematics problems…get the fuck out of here.

On the .00001% chance this isn’t some elaborate waste of time, you deserve to be lambasted for soliciting academic advice from a bunch of juice monkeys

I recommend checking forums for people on the autistic spectrum. They offer much useful information, including issues such children face in education.
