    Please Help MY MOM out!!

Well my mother used to live a pretty sedantary lifestyle. A few months ago she moved to Prague to teach english and needless to say she walks everywhere she goes. Sometimes she can take the bus, or the subway etc. but she still does a tremendous amount of walking. As a result her ankles have become quite bloated. She talked to her brother about this -he is a doctor- and he explained that the bloating was from the exercise that she now is getting but did not before. She wrote me an e-mail and asked me how to get rid of the bloating so I am writing you guys to see if you can help her. i didnt want to tell her to take some armidex j/k

ok thanks for the help bros

    peace

I'd say to get some good shoes, possibly ankle supports as well.

You think ankle supports might help? How about compression wraps (ace bandage)? Just thinking out loud here................I'm interested in rading what others have to say as well.

Look into orthopedic insoles... superfeet, spenco and montrail makes some wicked non prescription insoles that most of us hikers LOVE.

They make a big difference. Check out any outdoors equipment store like REI, MEI or MEC. They got those. You may also want to consider quality hiking shoes.

Swolen ankles is also a symptom of Congestive Heart Failure, but your bro being an MD probably ruled that out.

I would say a good pair of hiking shoes with quality insoles would probably be a good start for your mom.

I'd suggest elevating them when she's home, and putting on a compression wrap first thing in the moring to wear all day. It's how i keep my knee from swelling up like a balloon. I get my abcesses out next friday. That means only like 4 weeks until I can squat again! Hooray!
