New hard drive, old files
Im going to be buying a new computer soon and I was wondering how I would get all my files off of my old hard drive and onto my new one. I dont want all the files that I had, just personal sh!t like mp3s, jpegs, and videos. Is there a simple way to do this or would I have to put all the files on a cd-r and then copy them back onto the new one?

Cd-r, but you should be able to pick what files you want individaully, no need to back everything up. I just had to do this about a month ago

You could install your old drive in your new machine temporarily or permanently. It would copy much faster from the drive itself. It might be nice to have two hard drives and use one as a backup drive .

If you are interested in backing up important files you could keep your old pc around and network the two together. You can find free programs on download.com that would keep the two hard drives in sync so you would always have everything backed up.

I would use a USB lead with male ends on both sides, then your old drive will become an external hard drive. Its just a case of manualy selecting the files you want and moving them over

i have 2 of these :
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=269875
filled with 250 GB hard drives.
you could do that, or you could just install one temporarily as a slave (like someone mentioned before). then just format that old drive and sell it on ebay or something. or even just copy all the files off of it, and then format it, and then use it as a mp3 drive
