    2002 Olympics - Men's hockey

This is what us Canadians have been waiting for for 4 years. I'm sure a lot of other countries have interest in this because it should be the most exciting tourney in a while.

That shouldn't make a huge difference. I think Canada's advantage is in net. Joseph and Brodeur are very qualified, and Belfour will be a good cheerleader. Russia only has Khabibulin (good goalie, but doesn't have a backup) and Team USA has a couple of senior citizens (Richter and Barrasso).

It pissed me off Sean Burke didn't make Canada's team. I mean shit, Gretzky is his freaking owner, yes Brodeur is clutch, but with CuJo in the net. . .you won't need any help. Gretzky is a sell out. Oh well, go Yotes.

I guess you can look at it this way: Belfour was arrested for being drunk in public, and Burke was arrested for domestic abuse. Personally, I'd rather not have either one represent Canada. Roberto Luongo would have been a good choice because he would benefit from Olympic experience, and thats important when it comes to being a starter one day.

Actually, Curtis Joseph was supposed to be there, but he opted not to go. They usually don't select the "goalie of the moment" to the Olympic team - they'd rather have experience.

    Come on PPP you too.

The USA has the best defence and Richter comes up huge in international play. Gotta go with team USA. One thing for sure the gold and Silver will be in North America.

The odds were released, and Canada is the favorite. I forget the actual odds, but the order was like this:
    1. Canada
    2. Czech Republic
    3. Russia
    4. USA
    5. Sweden
    6. Finland

Wow, Sweden won. Thats just one though. I am happy with the way Canada played in the 3rd period, especially Eric Brewer's gutsy goal on the pinch. The first three games only determine placement in the quarterfinal games, so technically a team could lose the first three and still win the gold medal.

Spoke too soon, EH? And of all teams, Belarus!

In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, Sweden was eliminated by Belarus. Belarus wasn't expected to come close, let alone win the game. Tommy Salo was more concerned with blocking his face than stopping the puck. So much for the "torpedo" strategy...

Why would any of the players return to Sweden? Most of them, with a few exceptions, live in North America.

Thats great that the Swedish women won bronze. They weren't expected to be competitive, let alone with a medal.
