ventrogluteal injection!

just thought i would share this. i was at a clinical rotation at a major hospital where i live. all over the hospital they have posters hung that say no dorsogluteal (glute), yes ventrogluteal (hip) for im injections. the poster shows the sciatic nerve and the gluteal artery and vein in the glute area and shows no major arteries or nerves in the hip area. the only disadvantage it listed about the hip was "nurse's limited knowledge of the site". has anyone ever hit this site and how was it im thinkin about trying and i will let u guys know how it goes. for u bros that dont know the site just do a google search for ventrogluteal site and u should find some nice pics.

Use if volume is 1 - 3 cc. Use a 20 - 23 gauge, 1-1/2 inch needle.
This is the preferred site for adults and children < 7 mo.
Position client in supine lateral position.
Locate site by placing the hand with heel on the greater trochanter and thumb toward umbilicus. Point to the anterior iliac spine with the index finger (forming a "V"). Injection of medication is given within the "V" area.

I have done it once. And it was the only time i hit a vein.

You defintly need to know what you're doing to do that injection

I have done it a few times my opinion is don’t do it there are too many veins one time I had to stick 3 times until I got a good spot with no blood. It also left lots of small dark spots on my hip Definitely not worth it.

I'll stick to the glute.

I have NO meat in that area. I think I would have to use a 1/4 inch pin, then the gear would probably pour right out.

I did hit that nerve in the ass though, my ass cheek started vibrating like crazy.

Ive had nurses give me shots there before. I have never tried it. I might try just to see what is there.
