    Nutritional value of Pigeon?

Not speaking of the average barn pigeon (The mostly white ones), but of the ones that fly down out of washington and oregon into california.

Went hunting for them the first time yesterday with the girls family and ate one for lunch..have to say, not bad. Any ideas what the nutritional value is?

Seems like a cheap way for some protein We ended up getting like 14 in roughly 2-3 hours.

Tons of people eat it, youd be suprised how good it is. Just because they dont sell it at Ralphs doesnt mean its bad.

How many stores will you find selling Beef in India?

    Duck is pretty good too.

it has a unique taste to it. these birds eat mostly achorns if that matters. id say more like chicken than turkey, but they ae different. its good by itself, but with the right sides or sauce it could be super good.

I dont know about you guys, but meat can get expensive. Deer is also something that can be found locally. Deer is REALLY good if you ask me. Provides a nice alternative to store bought meat.

yea, it is a tad gamey. throw a good sauce or marinade on it. maybe throw it into some pasta or something. free deer is always better than an expensive steak tho

Are you sure it wasn't dove, and not pigeon? I have never heard of anyone eating pigeon. Dove is very common though, and it tastes very good too. And by the way, all wild game is very lean meat, even boar (pigs).

Soak it in milk overnight and it'll remove the gamey taste.

it was pigeon, i was the one who shot it

btw, there are different types of pigeon. You dont eat barn pigeon.

Ive had dove and quail as well, I think pigeon is the best out of the 3.

I ususally feed my falcon quail versus pigeon due to many know diseases that are common in pigeons (especially in the CNS areas)... prolly something to do with them walking in their sh!t all day. According to my falcon's Vet, if you choose to eat the little guy - you can freeze it first to kill some potenetial bacteria... or you could be sure to cook him prior to eating

A few people (very very few) eat pigeon here.It is akin to chicken in texture and probably nutritional value.

Hmmm worth a try if it's free LOL

i wouldnt eat one from chicago.

many people eat pigeon. i think some people are just ignorant (i dont mean that in a mean way) to some things. some people freak over the idea of eating deer and elk.

like i said, there are different types of pigeon. the normal pigeon that you would think of is certainly not the type you eat.
