at least a 1" 25 gauge, I have used a 1.5" 22 gauge before myself. Actually, as sharp as those pins are, you'd be surprised how much you need to push down to get it into your chest!!

25g 5/8 or a 25g 1 inch are fine. the muscle is very hard though. its a little nervy getting it in there the first time
