You got everything from anti-depressants to diuretics to thyroid medication. Why are you asking?

So, what's the deal, sport? DId you find these in your parents' medicine cabinet? (No, the question is not meant to be rhetorical. Yes, it is intended to be humorous, but in the end run, it is intended very seriously.)

Campoten - Never heard of it. In fact, it's not even listed (neither as brand or generic) in the Physician's Desk Reference, the standard compendium of all prescription drugs in the U.S., nor are there any web references to it.

Lasix - The most commonm brand name for Furosemide, a diuretic used to treat edema (including congestive heart failure) and hypertension. Some bodybuilders will tell you that it's useful in reducing water retention, but it's a dangerous one to play with. Bottom line: It makes you piss more.

Metformin (note correct spelling) - The generic name for Glucophage, which is used to treat diabetes. Generic Metforim is not available in the U.S., although it's supposed to come out in the fall. A great drug for diabetics insofar as it is the only oral medication that does not cause weight gain (as do glipizide or glyburide), but not useful in bodybuilding. Remember, if you are not diabetic and start playing around with oral diabetes drugs, it can kick you into hypoglycemia, which is not very pleasant. Cut the soda, the carbs, and the sweet munchies and you'll be a lot better off.

Pizotofen - Used to treat migrane headaches. Most general physicians won't touch this one, leaving it to the specialists.

Propecia/Proscar - two very different drugs in terms of clinical indication, although they are the same generic drug (Finasteride) produced by the same manufacturer (Merck). Propecia is used to treat alopecia, or male pattern baldness; Proscar is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate).

Synthroid - A brand name of levothyroxine, used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) and other thyroid-related conditions. It's also used by people who have had radioactive treatments for hyperthyroidism. T4 (L-thyoxine) is simply one of the major thyroid hormones.

Cytomel - Simply another formulation of levothyoxine. Some bodybuilders use it in the belief that it helps burn fat faster, but it's not an anabolic steroid . My opinion: Don't fuck with your thyroid. Be nice to it so it will be nice to you. (For those who do play with these, it's best to get, at the very least, a baseline TSH - thyroid function test - and learn about proper dosing.)

Bottom line: It's good that you asked the questions (hopefully before using any of these), but it does sound like you're describing an older guy's medicine cabinet. If you want to enter the wonderful, wacky world of AS, these particular drugs are not the way to do it. Good luck, bro.

Close - Remember, Propecia and Proscar are the same basic formulation (Finasteride), except that the Propecia is prescribed for hair loss and the Proscar for an enlarged prostate. The cancer angle comes insofar as Proscar is also prescribed for prostate cancer patients who have had radiation and seeding (as opposed to surgical removal of the prostate), and is intended to prevent or treat enlargement of the prostate gland (which can interfere with urination). Proscar has no preventive value for colon cancer, although some physicians prescribe it in an attempt to prevent a benign enlarged prostate from becoming cancerous.

That will be the usual five cents, please.
