So everbody knows not to overtrain for many reasons and that your muscles grow when you sleep, but how much sleep does one need to grow/bulk?

i make sure i have a minumum of 8 hours sleep. if possible i prfer 9 hours.
i've averaged 5 for the last 3 or 4 years
i normally get between 7-9 hours sleep per night

Over 8 hours for max growth, IMO. You should be sleeping even when you are not sleepy. Throw the TV out in the garage. In fact, I could insert a "b" in there and say throw it out in the GARBAGE. That's the worse robber of sleep I know of. How many times do you go home from work, eat supper, and watch the toob for 2-3 hours before bed? Usually, TV time is very unproductive. Catch the news on the radio, or reading the front page while you are taking a dump. Maximize your sleep time. Be an efficient sleeper.
I try to get as much as I possibly can, but it pisses me off when I have to wake up 5 times a night to piss because then it takes time for me to fall back asleep.
I try to get at least 8 but wake up hungry at least once a night, anyone else have this problem?

I actually do good on about 6-7 hrs/ed anymore and I am groggy all day long.
with thaT M1T **** i am suprised i even wake up when i do it all seems like a dream . Just like the other day i went to a real low class club and banged a 300 pound chick and just said to myself it was all a dream till i went to take a piss and the condom was on. Never take m1t i sleep like all day long and dont even go to gym im so tired. THe monkey means it eat a banana but dont take m1t lethargy is a killer.
well sisnce I am a self employed webmaster/designer with lots of time on my hands, I sleep alot... 8 hours a night, I nap after I have my post workout meal, and try to sleep every second that I am not eating or in the gym...
I am not a huge eater and the sleep keeps me from burning tons of calories, even awake I am sedentary if I am not in the gym...
There is no answer to this thread. Sleep requirement depends on the individual, their eating, working habits, stress level etc..........
Agreed, thank you all for your participation, overall consensus though is at least 8 hours sleep to grow. PS I also wake up to piss several times, did not start cycle yet think it's the Creatine loading.Originally Posted by colossus1

i would think around 9 to see maximum gains but i would imagine 7 would suffice. eight straight is much better than 6 than a 2 hour nap because it takes you budy a couple of hours to get into the stage of sleep that releases chemicals, and when you wake up some chemicals levels drop.

If I have less than 8 hours I sucks big time next day. 9 hours of night sleep helps me grow.
I find that i sleep more when my body is going through a growth phase it not unusual for me to get 10-12 hrs.
The rest of the time i can get by on about 6.
Once while pre contest the last 6 weeks i must have got about 8hrs sleep total, i wasnt sleeping at all would just dose off for about 15 mins after gym i relied on taking stimulants to keep me sane.
I aim for 8 solid hours. I have to balance rising time with meal plan for day though.
i seriously dont know how anyone can get over 8 hours of sleep a night. you must either be unemployed or have no social life whatsoever. i consider myself lucky if i can get 6 hours a night.
i get about 7 during the week and play catchup on the week ends
I would like to be able to sleep at least 8 hours but I just can't
in the week days too much things to be done, so in the sat/sun
I go to full 9-10hours to take the unlept time back to my growth.
I feel I need more time to sleep.

if you smoke some herbs before bed it helps a lot. I usually get 8-10 hours of sleep a night after a couple of bong loads. If i don't smoke, it affects my rest tremendously, it seems like I can never fall asleep, and if i do I'm waking up every couple of hours.
8-10 hrs for me. funny I will feel a bit more tired if I get say 11 hrs of sleep, as oppose to like 6 hrs.
sleep is vital ......its all plays a part in the big scheme....hell i get 8 hours per night....sometimes take naps also
i usually get about 10 1/2 - 11 hours a night when i'm on cycle. i seem to get worn down faster. normally i sleep about 9 though off cycle.
Im with the group ~ 6 hours, and too
many bathroom breaks..LOL
About 6 hours sleep Monday to Friday and about 28 hours at the weekend!!!![]()
