No, and if they ask you for one be sure to say it's not necessary.

That depends, where are you sending the money to? If its to another country, then yes you do and they will probably ask for your social security number, if inside the USA, not necessary.

Depends on the amount and location. I went to several places here trying to send under their "NO ID needed for under $1000" rule and I got asked for Drivers License, SS Card, Home Phone # and my Occupation.. WTF??!?!?! I finally found a cool store manager at a food store that did not ask any questions at all except how to spell my name because he could not read my writting.

i've sent as much as 500 dollars and was asked for all the Identification as listed earlier. U see, they are trying to monitor the possible funding of terrorist groups and drug purchases via money transfer agencies. They log you for consistencies and if too often of transfers occur, quite possible, the flag will be raised

u cant use different names since ID is required, but different people doing it for you, then yes it can be done. I dont waste my time going in to W.U. anymore. Simple W.U. online is best for me.

This may be true in your area, but in mine, the computer tells the merchant to request ID and social. I buy alot of items from China, so I go thru this all the time.

Hey MudMan, you have any experience W.U. like this?

the DEA and NSA have been watching W.U., Money Gram, and other means of other retail money transfer agencies for years and the alert was heightened when the attacks happened. There were reports that there was some terrorist cells shooting money to and from eachother funding the efforts here in the U.S. using anonymous names and so forth. THis was made easy because some of the stores that I know of were Afghan and Pakistani owned and they were licensed W.U. and some were for Money gram as well. So thats why this has happened as far as the more frequent and extensive requests for multiple I.D.'s. Remember, there was a time when no I.D. was required whatsoever for any amount or for any destination. Maybe the younger guys dont remember it, but I'm sure some of the older guys can remember this.

So there you have it, at least one other person(Oldman) admits that it has happened to him. Now if this is something thye do randomly, then there is only one thing you can do, turn on your heels and leave with your money. Find another place. But believe me fellas, when they see money going to certain countries in large sums, you too may be hit with the ID request, even for sums under a grand.
