Yes, heat over a specified amount of time can kill certain bacteria. Unfortunately, the problem lies with where you are going to heat the oil. Unless you have an autoclave accessible, once you remove the oil from the oven, it is now exposed to an unsterile environment. Heating it as they did may have reduced bioburden but I wouldn't say it was sterile. Filtering it through a 0.22 micron filter within a closed system (sterile vial) would guarantee it sterile. As for how long it would remain sterile.................you should be good to go for awhile as long as that vial is never opened to the environment. Not sure on an actual timeframe as you would need stability data to support that. <---- thats the wife, not me....lol
