Is it registered mail? IF so then it requires a signature.......I would have somebody pick it up for her or call the post office and ask what the letter means......I work during the day so I'm never home to recieve packages, I ALWAYS recieve a slip that states that I have a package waiting to be picked up at the post office

i'd call the post office and ask why wasnt it delivered to your house? why do u have to come down there? tell them u a senior citizen or you broke your leg and are physically uncapable of getting there.

Id go get the package unless they make you sign for it, they might just want a pic ID but if you sign for it , you are responsible for whats in the pack. If they were gonna sting you they would try to deliver the package and make you sign, tricky situation, your choice

hey bro, im on the east coast and have had similar situation happen when i was up at school. i had a few letters sayin to come to the post office to pick them up cuz no one was home when delivered. me being young and undecated went and picked them up.. luckly i walked out with my gear but since then id surely leave it there. wouldnt want to take that risk anymore with the increased war on juice and sneaky ish they pull.. good luck with it, and go with the advice above, either a. have some one else get it, or ask for redelivery.

happened to me also
I went to the front desk and they handed it right over.
Id go get it, if they ask for a signature or anything fishy, just say "Im not signing for a package because i didnt order one".

The post office could really care less. They want to get rid of the package since there are 6 billion others to be delivered. If it's for personal use and discovered, then they'll seize it and send a letter that says so. They will only control a delivery if you look to be dealing.

i dont think its incriminating to pick it up its probly worse to leave it (if there is a real problem) cause that shows you know what it was but atleast if you pick it up you could be like "i didnt know what the hell that shit was"

I would do this:
If the package is addressed to a female, have a male pick it up for them. This way if the Post Office decides to take action you can say you were just picking it up for someone and have no idea what's in the package.
Chances are she was not home during the initial delivery and the way in which it was sent required a signature or a return receipt. Thus the post office held it and put a letter in the box asking you to pick it up at the post office.
This is generally done depending on the type of delivery or based on the discretion of the mail carrier that day. At some addresses mail carriers feel comfortable leaving parcels at the door, but at others they do not for one reason or another. I have friends who are mail carriers and they told me this.
Perhaps a different mail carrier was doing that route this day.
When I order something online (regardless of what it is) and I am not home during the delivery, there is generally a 50-50 chance that my carrier will leave the box on the doorstep or leave a note asking me to pick it up at the post office.Last edited by cmax; 06-06-2006 at 09:27 PM.

it depends on the letter....if it was the little index card that says Sorry we missed you then go pick it up, but if it's a actual letter then forget about it
My thinking is, if it is only a notecard saying "Sorry we missed you" then if you pick it up and they are actually going to do something to you say you were expecting a package from Ebay or something, and you have no idea who sent this or why
I just picked up my gear yesterday after they left the card saying the missed me

Don't leave the package, I would go and pick it up. I always get slips in my mailbox saying that I have a package that is at the post office that needs to be picked up, ALWAYS. This is NOT abnormal. Actually, it is a good thing, because if they wanted to sting you, they would not do it at the post office because if they wanted to sting you at the post office it would be very incovienient for them to do so not knowing when you would or would not show up so they would not want to wait for you there. If anything, having that slip in your mailbox is a GOOD sign I would say. If they were going to sting you, they would knock on your door and have you sign the package there at your house. GO TO THE POST OFFICE AND PICK UP YOUR GEAR PRONTO AND STOP BEING PARANOID. If you leave it there, they might eventually open it. Or, you could just call them and tell them to redeliver it but they will still want you to sign for it so if I was you, I would just go and pick the damn thing up. You should be fine.

LE would bust you one of three ways (1) you would get a letter in the mail or a phone call asking you to come down to the station and discuss your package, (2) you would get a letter from customs, (3) LE would show up at your door.
LE is not going to hang out at the post office for days on end and wait for you to *maybe* show up at your own convenience to claim an illegal package. If they want to talk with you they will do it at their own convenience and either mail/call you and say me us at this place and time or show up at your place when they feel like it.

My postman left a note saying my package was at the post office, went to pick it up and it was at a different post office (my postman wrote the wrong zip code and address--long story) but when I went to pick it up, no problems.
I wouldn't worry about it.

ive ordered hundreds of car parts online. And this happens all the time. I really think it was just a missed delievery. I actually enjoyed it more when i had to pick it up. Most the time i am at work and cant be at home to sign for it.
More then likely its fine. sounds like typical usps procedure to me.
Go get your gear.
