Best way to open an amp?

Just wondering if there is an easier or better way to open amps then I have been doing. I grab the top with a paper towel and try to break open as careful as possible. The top of the amp smashed into pieces every time no matter how gentle I am with it. Any suggestions would help. Thanks....C-Walk

use a small metal nail file, and score around the thin
part of the neck. there should be a white powdery
line around it. take a bit of care and patience, and
it will break of clean every time

i hear ya, every damn time. last time damn thing broke into 34234 pieces and almost all of them ended up in my thumb. son of a bitch bled for 1/2 hour. someone on this board gave the idea of slipping a pen cap over the top and poping it off. thats the best i've done.

Or get a amp oper from getpinz.com I use, have successfully opened all my amps (though todays testaviron didnt break off completely clean)

use a steak knife or file and gently go round the top of the amp a few times ,then snap it off with a pen cap

also try wraping tape on the bottom end before snapping. It'll keep the explosions to a minimum.

Pen cap..and nail file if neck is too thick (score neck first).

Pen cap works great, just score the neck, put the cap on the top and move side to side and back and forth, it will snap clean and easy.
