    What REALLY is REST?

Hypothetically........why couldn't you train everyday? If you split your routine so that each muscle group was worked witha minimum of 3-4 days rest, why couldn't one train everyday and achieve great results? Esp. if you get enough sleep, sit in an office all day and eat, and then train in the evening? Isnt that considered"rest"??

    Something like

    quads
    chest/bis
    hamstrings
    delts/tris
    quads
    back/trps
    arms
    hamstrings,....so on...

The body needs complete rest with intense training, if you can train for 7 days a week continusly your not training correctly, you grow out of the gym when your feeding it and resting it.

CNS cannot recover as fast as muscle tissue.. many seem to forget this.

This has to recover fully before your body will even start to work on muscle tissue from what I've read. Therefore I do 2-3day/wk routine with great results. Like marcus stated, intensity is key.. Higher intensity = less frequency.

btw, CNS = central nervous system.

agreed with the vets here... I used to sometimes train 3 days in a row and my body couldnt handle it... apart from it being far from optimal the third day already I noticed significant decrease in training intensity, even with carefully split routine... also i was very injury prone after many days of hard working out..

Dont you guys go stir crazy on off days? I mean what do you do but eat all damn day????? I sit in an office and chow...nothing more.....sucks!

IB - u said you always do something, right? So cardio is an off day? Are you ever completely at rest and just lounge...all day?

I just bought a gym and two nutrition stores so I really enjoy my off days as I'm constantly running my ass off and extremely busy.. gives me a chance to focus on my work and know that I will have an extremely high intensity workout on the days I'm set to be there. Yes I drive around with a cooler in my car with 6-8tubberwares pre-prepared with meals for the day, I already know exactly what macros I'm going to eat for that day the night before, so there is no guessing.

If I were sitting in a office all day I wouldn't go stir crazy because I wasn't lifting I'd probably just shoot myself because I'd die of boredom, I like to stay busy and productive..

Yes, it's very easy to go stir crazy, the gym is like the most severe addiction there is for me. But from my experience w/ bodybuilding, it's best if it's not the main focus of your day. For two reasons, sometimes it can hold you back from succeeding in other aspects of life, and you'll get even bigger only going 3 days/wk because you'll be more motivated and better rested. Think of the gym as an escape for a few hours/wk from everybody elses expectations of you, and all the other stress from life. I used to see these huge ****ers in the gym and think to myself how does that guy get so big? He's only in here twice/week and when he is he doesnt even train that heavy. It's what they do outside of the gym, not always in.

I rest out total for two whole days, as I body build and kick box, its essential I take some time to alow my body to rest, otherwise I'd just be training for stamina. Just read a book by Menza who rested sometimes for weeks rather than days, did'nt do him much harm.

I'd still do cardio on my off days or try to break a sweat at least doing something. I think a good plan for bulking is weights 3x/wk, and high intesnsity cardio for 20-30min/session 2-3x/wk
