    no nothing about steroids

Can someone tell me if deep red indented stretch marks could be a sign of steroid use? My girlfriend and I have noticed these sudden changes in our teen-age boys. I know for a fact that my son was injecting for awhile but has stopped now. He has these stretch marks that don't look like they are from simple weight gain or loss. They look terrible. My girlfriend's son has them too now. We were talking and noticed a common link with both boys.

I have them although I havent used in over 4 years. I still have pretty nice stretch marks.

In wieght-lifting you are using VERY heavy weights that stretch the muscle, and consequently the skin. Especially at a teen's age they have a high level of natural occuring hormones, it is not un common to see a period of rapid growth in muscle or else otherwise, i.e. stature, body weight.

Although to be honest, which seems to me you are a mother, I would further investigate. If you are his mom you have rule over him, search throgh his shit. He will be pissed but later on when he learns and matures a bit he will be glad you did. I know I was.

Stretch marks are caused by rapid growth or weight gain and there is no period of fast growth than in your teen years. I got a lot of stretch marks when I was in my teens (before I used gear) so I would say that stretch marks alone are no indication of steroid use. However if you know he has used in the past then it is entirely possible he is using again. If this is the case I recommend you and you son read the education threads on the site and discuses the matter. Simply telling him should not do it is not going to stop him so you could at least make sure he makes an educated decision and does it as safe as possible.

I would like to add to what the other bros said:

if you JUST noticed these stretch marks, it can also mean that they have only recently experienced a significant fluctuation in mass, which in and of itself is harmless, but just might indirectly confirm your suspicion of steroid use..

However you handle it, i agree with graeme, dont talk down to him...talk like two adults and you have a better chance of getting your message through...also ask him to look at this thread because at his age he should be going NOWHERE near AAS!!!

    Best Wishes

most of the visible symtoms of steroid use are the same things that teenage boys get anyway, acne, increased muscle mass, increased facial hair, possible mood swings.temper. The only way of knowing for sure is either finding eviidence (needles ect) or that they admit it to you.

No, they are not a sign of steroid use, cause I have them and Ive never used steroids, stretch marks are caused by increase in mass, not steroid use.

marincaligirl: just for your information, most of users here are well over 30.. so what you'll get here is the truth, not the "steroids will turn your kid into a monster and rapist " you hear on Oprah.

but seriously, how old are the boys ?

if they are younger than 22, they really should not use steroids as it will mess with there hormone levels, as they probably have not done any post cycle therapy.

You should pay attention to this thread, steroids are not bad, I believe there are few deaths from steroids, ( X < 5) but the deaths from Aspirin, yes, the common used painkiller and bloodthinner, are uncountable.

But steroid use is somewhat young boys use as a short cut, that is a known fact and nobody here will deny this.

so I ask, what are the boys age ?
Have you looked through theyr locker ? have you found any prohormones ?

just so you know in my opinion, Legal, Over the counter Prohormones slash supplements, are much hazardous than injectable steroids.

I would investigate further... go through their stuff too. Gear isn't usually all that big in volume so you can hide it all over the place. You're there to be their parent, not their friend and sometimes you have to enforce tough love in order to protect themselves from themselves.

Also, before I was working with anabolics I gained stretch marks pretty much everywhere from chest, delts, obliques, armpits, biceps, lats, etc. I got these as I bulked up naturally for high school football, so stretch marks don't necessarily mean steroids.

Just ask them kindly and nicely how they would feel about a general drug test. You should be able to talk about anything freely and be upfront with them. You can use this as a reason to ask because they almost certainly will ask you why. If you know your boys well like you sound like you do, then from their reaction you will know soon enough. Now if you are fairly convinced that this is the case, sometimes some simple counceling sessions will go a long way, the other alternative is to get them to therapy or a child psycologist to punch in the message that you don't have to be huge or a monster to make an impact on their social life which is the No 1 reason teens use steroids.

    Mom????

To answer your question simply, no. Stretch marks are no indicator of steroid use. I'm assuming you have other reasons to believe your son is using. If that is the case, confront him in a non-hostile manner. Good luck.

as said by many here strech marks do not mean steroid use ( but can ) it's hard to determin .... I have help several parents with teenage steroid use ... most of the time it's teen pressure SChool, sports, are to just fit in with the joxs ...... there is only one sure fire way to tell, take your kids to get blood work done ..... above normal test level will be a good way to tell ... but may I just add that fighting with them will not help... becasue there may be a few underlined issue here I would talk with school counslers ... because Steroids use an a very young age CAn cause permadent damage to growth plates and natty hormons ....

first take a look around and see what you find as said steroids is small in volume is so very easy to hide ... but needle (pins) is not for it would take more space to hide 30 plus needles ... they will be easier to find .... once you find out they are useing .... take the right steps to educate them ... since you dont know much .. also let them know the legal issue in reguards to having steroids .... I must stress that outside interventhion IS NEEDED like counslers and in some casue Doctors to restore hormone fuction......please feel free to use this fourm for them to do research or come talk to the guys here that will set them stright on steroid use ... because if they continue to use they are putting them selves in harm and as a parent this can not and should not be looked over...

    No..strech marks are no a sure-fire indication

By rather than speculate.. why not ask him/them?

And i don't mean in the typical "I am your mother..ANSWER ME" manner..because that will get you no where.

    Search his room.

I had a bottle of dbol when I was 16 and my mother suspected that I was doing something I shouldn't be doing (she found it in about 5 minutes). If he lives at home, it's your house and you have a mother's duty to check up on him. If you think he's using, find the gear or take his ass to the Dr. for a test. Teens should not be using gear. PERIOD.
But the competitive forces of highschool and being young and immature are very powerful and quick mass gains are very tempting. The problem is that most teen males have all the natural test running though their system to gain size very quickly so stretch marks are not definitive of AAS use.
However, you're his MOM and your instincts are probably correct. If he was injecting already, chances are he is still using. It's very dangerous for young people to mess with their natural hormone levels so if you have your doubts, I'd encourage you to be safe that sorry. If you find gear, try to keep you emotions in check and if your assumptions are correct, then get him to a Dr. for testing and make sure that he is under supervision while his natural test levels get back on track. Good luck. Steroids are not EVIL as the media would have us believe but teens have no business using them.
