aspirating for 5-10 seconds? ouch. apperently its proper techniqu though.

as i was trolling for young college girls at our local community college, i couldnt help but notice a video called "injections" in the library. So, i figured wtf, ill watch it.
Basically redundant on my current knowlede but surprizingly they said aspirate for 5-10 seconds when going IM. I was kinda like "wtf" cuz i usually aspirate for a 3 seconds or so. And also when the nurse pulled back on the plunger, boy it must have been a good half inch, and on a big barrel too. I usually try not to pull back to far. Seems unescessay. And certainly not for 10 seconds, eek! 5...maybe.

But then again, how man bros had had the coughs after their shots? Yeah.
    Just food for thought.
I may try this method tonite with a dummy shot. Just to see if it hurts.

I never even had a nurse at the hospital aspirate for 10 seconds... I think I would cry...

I don't understand that. The point of aspirating is to make sure U did not hit a vein and if U did U will surely know it before 5-10 seconds, also I don't understand the hurt part? it never hurts me when i aspirate.

ive never had pain from aspirating either. i cant understand 5-10 seconds either. you know right away if your in a vien,it only happened to me once. the biggest diff. i felt was the needle pulled back too easy then i saw blood. but it was instant.

Having previously worked in the medical field for 7 years I can say with confidence that you do not have to aspirate for 5-10 seconds....never even heard of such a thing. If you pull the plunger back for a second or two and don't see blood...you're good to go.
