What do you all do with your pins after injecting? Sure you can get a sharps container, fill it up. But then what? You can't just throw it in the trash can. Mucho fines and legal problems there with bio waste, right?

I would imagine a lot get irresponsibly thrown in the trash. But I don't want to hear that. I would like to think everyone is responsible, which I know is not true.

Well, good point. But I think it would be better to dispose of them properly if there was a way rather than someone finding them illegally disposed.

Improperly disposing of hazardous waste (used pins in a protein jug for example ) would just bring in additional authorities and charges. And I would hate to think that a lapse in good judgement caused someone (ie: me) to get busted.

Just think about the trouble you go through to be "careful" in your recreation. Guarding your sources, destroying paper trails, labels, vials,etc etc. The suddenly *knock knock* and the authorities have a few questions about this bio-hazzardous waste. And there you stand. . .all jacked up and ripped. "b-12" is not going to work. . .especially when they find them in a muscle supplement container.

For those of you in the states that drop them off at a hospital; how exactly does that work? Any questions? Do you have to talk to someone? Or is it like a "night bank deposit" thing?

Almost every doctor's office has bio waste bins in the exam rooms. You can bring them with you and toss them while you're waiting for the doc.

As usual, Tai has the correct answer. If you add a shot of bleach to the jug before taping it up, and do not place it in a bag with your other refuse (that can ID you) the evidence of what and who is pretty well destroyed. Also, in the local municipality near me there was a "large problem" with garbage men getting stuck - it made the news. There was no LE response, just some new gloves and junk to protect them. See - no LE response from dangerously disposed of pins, which we are not doing. Compared to everything else involved, this is the least of your concerns.

Thats kind of stupid to tell someone who is trying to do things right. Two wrongs dont make a right, true enough. But *IF* someone got into your trash, with a billion pins in it, thats just a big old chain of evidence to use against you.

At least if you go the responsible route, your biohazzards will be disposed of and incinerated/autoclaved/made sterile thus removing all evidense. And that is one less thing that can tip someone off.

Obvious there is no one here in the states who can give an answer that is a responsible solution.

I called my local hospital and asked, they will take them as long as they are in an approved sharps container. ($5 from RLS) No questions asked. And if someone did ask, you can always say something in jest like "These are from my weekly drug habit" and leave. Its not illegal to take drugs, just possess them.

I will be taking this route. I dont want some curious kid/LEO/trashman finding mine.

Seriously though, after each injection, i stick the used needles, barrels, wrappers in a small plain envelope. Then I seal it, fold it in half length wise, and staple it. THEN i put the sealed envelope in an empty protein jug. Before I toss the whole jug after it's full, i put a bunch of papertowells and junk mail on top, so if for any reason it was ever opened, it would just look like I used the jug to put trash into.

Seriously though, another main reason I put the barrels in envelopes is because my parents have a key to my house and stop by to check on things when i'm out of town. I want to avoid them taking out the trash and finding a protein jug rattling around and open it and find 300 used syringes and vials.

It really doesn't matter, though. Sharps containers are sealable. You can't really get them open again (without destroying the container). I just get on the autobahn, stop at a rest stop and chunk it in the garbage.

a buddy of mine puts his sharps in his protien jug and then fills the remaining space with that expanding foam insulation. It kinda suspends the pins inside the hardend foam. I thought that was pretty cool. Not exactly legal but better that flushing them or throwing them out the window of the car (seen people do it)

As a general rule, no needle exchange here - we keep our $ in our pockets and individually decide how to squander it, instead of paying it all into taxes and letting the Central Committee decide for us.

Surprised to read about the diabetic - every single insulin dependent diabetic I have know has been completely lax about pin disposal. I am talking about plastic garbage bags over full with non-capped used slin pins, etc. All over the house/apt. randomly thrown into the trash, etc. If my sampling is way off and only half are like this, that's still millions of diabetics in the states using multiple pins a day going straight into the trash every day. No wonder LE doesn't follow up on garbage men getting stuck.

But obviously I asked the question incorrectly and assumed people would draw a conclusion as to what I meant. And for that, I am a dumbass for assuming people would understand what I was looking for.

I should have asked:

"OTHER THAN throwing pins in the trash or a dumpster, what means do you have of disposing pins? Hospitals? City collection center? Please don't tell me how to put them in the trash, I do that now."

But alas, I failed. Maybe next time I will stick with primary colors as to not confuse the issue.

But forget it. My hospital will take them for me.
