Question Has anyone of ever heard of prednisone ?

Has anyone ever heard of prednisone ? Does anyone know if it can be used for weight training. A buddy of mine is prescribed this stuff for Muscular Distr. and it helps him keep muscle tissue and help it grow or so he explains. i'm good with sust 250 for now...just curious to see if anyone has heard of it.

That stuff is like death. It is a corticosteroid, which means it will actually burn up muscle tissue. Ive used it much in the past when my asthma was bad. It reduces inflamtion like cortisone does. It will make you bloat somewhat with water and your body ends up consuming muscle tissue. Avoid it like the plague!

I've taken prednisone for asthma and it was told to me by the doctor that I could expect to retain some water. I also know it can be used in the treatment of psoriasis.

Don't take predisone more than twice a year. It will trash you immune
system. It's only used for sinus and allergy, sometimes, rash. I just
got perscribed some for sinus infection. Don't even think of taking
that stuff unless there is a serious reason.

mY Cousin is taking that for Krohns disease. He has abused steroids heavily in the past and is only 27 and has this disease. It is a hereditary disease as his father has it as well, but is normally prevalent in middle aged to old people. I wonder if taking many cycles of steroids accelerates your bodily functions. For example, gear closes growth plates. Could gear also accelerate hereditary diseases that would normally arise later in life...?

actually, Crohn's Disease usually starts to develop in adolescence or early adulthood. but for the answer to your question, something that accelerates bodily aging can accelerate hereditary diseases that would normally arise later in life. your "biological clock" does not necessarily run on the same time that we do

prednisone is a steroid but not an androgenic or anabolic steroid. Like said earlier it's a corticosteroid. It is used as a immunosuppressant typically for organ translants so that the receiver's immune system doesn't reject the transplant. It has horrible side effects, especially when not directed and dosed by a doctor. If used too much, you will get bacterial, fungal, and viral infections since you are suppressing your immune system. Point being...don't use it. It's not a steroid for muscle building. Only for immune suppression.

it is used in various other conditions too.. It is very very widely used in medicine.. most autoimmune diseases etc etc... Its a very important drug BUT unfortunately has lots of side-effects and shouldnt be used continously without unless there is no other choice...

actually the immunosuppressant effect doesnt really increase the likelyhood of infections as much as one might think... the other side-effects are much worse when considering long term use of glucocorticoids.. like osteoporosis..
