Thread: Huge possible abcess, entire left gluteus maximus.

  1. #1

Huge possible abcess, entire left gluteus maximus.

My whole left gluteus maximus is hard as hell and swollen bad. Not hot or red but I have a 106.5-107.3 temperature and feel kinda sick. It is swollen from one side to the other, the whole part of the muscle.

It was just a shot that I felt bad about right as I did it. I think it wasn't fully healed from the last shot, I hit it with 1.5ml of npp/test prop and my angle was just ****ed, I blew it. I always clean and everything, just bad luck I guess.

Gonna probly go to th edoc tomorrow and tell em I sat on sewing pin or something. Probly get some antibiotics. I had some amoxicillin left over from my child but we threw it out

Just heads up, do your shots carefully and if it feels wrong, re do it. This hurts bad. Gotta use a NSAI and I never use em anymore.

Dude if your temp is fluctuating between 106 and 107 you need to be in the ER....

  5. #5
    Thats what I was thinking

    Isnt over 104/105 considered lethal?

This is body temperature right? Are you sure the therm. is accurate?

skull keep us posted....i would get yourself to the doc asap...if that temp is accurate, you need to go

    good luck!!

  11. #11
well I just took it, lets make sure, what is 40. degrees celcius? Maybe I am wrong? It was 40, and 41 if I remember correctly, not sure about the ".xx" though. The thermometers only celcius though, its stuck.

I do feel hot as shit but, I am not sure if I really need to go to the ER yet.....? I dont wanna over react.

  12. #12
I took it in my mouth, armpit and ear. All said the same reading approx. Wouldn't I be bed ridden if it was so bad? I mean I feel weak and generally crappy but I don't feel brain damage crappy.

Eh we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

  13. #13
41.2 and 41.7 just now...............?? Maybe the thermometer is off.

  14. #14
thats like 106 bro, imo your thermometer is off, if your temp is 100-101 thats bad enough, ive had 103, but 106 is brain damage.

Skull go the the fvcking Dr NOW dude. You definitely have an infection, dont leave it man.

  18. #18
You wanna be passive and dismissive over a possible severe infection? If your glute is that involved and you have that high of a temperature, you need to take it more immediately serious. Let me describe for you what can happen.

I'm ex-military with a lot of military injuries where I have to get treated at the VA. In 1999 I started feeling sick and went to the VA and they said I just had the flu. Symptoms degraded quickly and they refused to look for or test for anything else. Turns out I had a staphylococcus aureus infection that got into my blood stream because the VA let it go so long. This stupid little infection ended up almost killing me. Both MRSA and MSSA have extremely high mortality rates even with radical treatment. This infection lodged in my chest cavity and in my lungs and really ****ed them up. Because of it I developed progressive bilateral cystic bronchiectasis that slowly eats your lungs and impairs your breathing. Last March they had to remove most of my right lung. I still cough up blood and lung fluid everyday. Next they had to remove this huge pus pocket from my chest cavity along with a rib and part of my sternum. The infection got into my right sternoclavicular joint and ate at the joint where it looks like a mothball and bowed the collarbone. My whole upper right side is pretty messed up permanently. They were concerned the infection would get into my heart so to prevent endocarditis I had a picc line installed -- an IV line that runs from your forearm down into your heart cavity -- where I had to give myself antibiotic injections twice a day for three months. I've had probably 20 operations and procedures because of this stupid little infection that was allowed to get out of control.

What I'm telling you and anyone else here who reads this post is how serious infections -- even possible infections -- need to be taken. If they don't kill you they can **** you up really bad. I know what I'd do if I were you.

Dont lie to the doc either. Just tell him what happened honestly. The treatment may differ depnding if the infection involves injecting steroids.

how long have the symptoms lasted?

The reason i ask is becasue ive ran into the same problem in the past, ive had bad injections that resulted in a red hot swollen area. No pain tho, my temp did go up in the 102-103 range, however i decided to try and ride it out. And 2-3 days later, the symptoms subsided, my temp dropped and the swollen area reduced in size significantly.

IMO if the symptoms have been with you for more than 2-3 days, than you deff need to see a trusted doc and seek medical attention.

At your stated temp the above would happen.

Second, GO TO THE DOCTOR MAN, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

I had a really bad abcess that required surgery eventually, and I only got up to a 102 degree fever. You should have gone to the doctors a long time ago. Good luck, hope you dont need to get cut on.

I usually wait until the last minute to go the doc but you need to get to the er fast. Dont wait.

Beginning of the abscess, it should get worse they said but they cant operate yet, it COULD get better, but unlikely.
The put me on camoxilicin....I think, and gave me some vicodin. They did an ultrasound and you could see several masses, old injections I assume, but one was very large and "inflamed" apparently.

They said if my fever gets worse (It was really only 99-100 degrees) or chills etc, to go back and they will operate on it by cutting it open, draining it and packing it etc etc, sounds like fun.

I feel like shit and am missing out on hella money from work, I can't really walk. When they moved it around in the ultrasound, it made it feel 10X worse.

You will need the vicodin. They do a test to see which anti-biotics they should put you on?

Just use good shot protocol. Make sure everything is clean and sterile. Just went through it recently and its not fun having several docs look up your ass.

Skull, been checking this for progress and sorry to hear the news. At least it seems to have been caught in the early stages.

A muscle like the glute will impinge your training - anything you sit down for and all leg exercises. If I was you I'd stop the course and save it for when you're fighting fit again.

Tough to see some positives on a bummer like this, but my take would be that this scenario is it's a test of your strength of mind and outlook in life.

Maybe a bit deep, but best wishes and keep us posted with progress.

On a side note this board has got some great people on it - that's what makes it. Sound advice handed out.

For what it is worth. It doesn't sound like the same thing but I have allergies to sesame seed oil. First few shots I got ball size lumps. Forth shot my left butt check blow up. It was rock hard an a couple inches bigger. Unlike yours it was red and hot. It to0k about ten days to run its course it was pretty darn painfully. Hopefully it is an allergic reaction and you'll get back to normal soon!
