Needle Size Question
My workout partner is very lean and cut 7-8% body fat. He just started cycle using 23 guage 3/4" needles for glute shots. I asked him why so small, and he feels he doesnt need as much penetration do to small ass, and worried about going to deep and hitting nerve. Does this sound smart or wrong info?

3/4 is pretty short.
I use 1" for glutes and all other spots. Most people use 1.5 for glutes
the less bf you have will determine how long you need i usually am around 7%
I'd never go shorter than 1" personally, rather not risk an abcess
Make sure he's sticking his gluteus medius, not his gluteus maximus
you can hit a nerve and get temporarily paralyzed in the maximus, maybe thats what he's worried about

Is a 3/4" more prone to develop an abcess versus a 1" or 1.5"??

even with low BF, i dont' think I personally would use less than a 1" in the glute, there is a lot of muscle there and an inch would go nice and deep for low BF. as long as he is careful and injects slowly, he should be ok though

so deeper penetration is likely to develop problems? He may have a fobia of long needles! A lot of people seem to think a 3/4" needle will hurt less than a 1.5".

Depth is really for effectiveness as opposed to avoiding "hitting a nerve," at least what I've found in research and practice. Notice the diagram below: the nervous system that extends from the lower spinal column stays quite close to the bone structure, meaning that it's fairly deep. A 1.5" needle would have FAR more liklihood of striking a nerve, especially if injected into the gluteus maximus (or minimus!), as stated before.
IMO, a 1" pushed to the hilt into the gluteus medius would be sufficient to avoid minimizing the effects of your AAS, but if you have a thick ass, go 1.5".
Keep in mind that the less play there is on the needle, the less likely you will be to move the needle after aspiration and therefore be injecting directly into a vein or artery. If your friend feels a 1.5" is too deep to penetrate fully and feel confident while aspirating with, then 1" is the way to go.
