    Another Injection Question....

So I've got the pre-assembled Terumo syringes, not seperate pins and syringes. Injection protocal says that if I aspirate and get blood I need to "switch pins" and start over. So I'm unclear what this means..

If my syringe is loaded up and I draw blood, then what do I do? Is it even possible to change out pins with these types of syringes? Thanks guys.

1st injection EVER in t-minus one hour

I believe they are referring to the fact that if you asperate blood, you hit some sort of blood vessel either vein or artery. And when they say "switch pins" they mean the pin you just got blood mixed in your oil, throw it away and redraw for another injection.

The alcohol content in the oil could clot the blood up in the syringe and cause a number of problems from the least -

1)clogging your needle up so it won't inject

    to the worst -

    2) causing a blood abcess in the muscle tissue you inject in

As the pin cannot be rremoved from the syringe, what you will have to do is pull the pin out and then reinsert it somewhere else, aspirate again and then shoot. Dont worry about the blood in there from the first aspiration, its your blood and its sterile so it wont hurt you when it is re injected.

sterile yes, but it will clot because of the alcohol in the oil...now depending on the amount asperated....what I said in my first post could happen.

Wouldn't the pressure in the syringe be enough to overcome any kind of clot and still be able to push it all through? Also, I would assume aspirating a tiny amount of blood. If you see blood, STOP, right?

Depending on the size of the needle, maybe.

    23g and smaller, probably not.

And yes, I would hope that if you saw blood start to enter the syringe you would immediately stop but even I get complacent sometimes and don't really pay attention to the syringe when I asperate and I've been in the medical field for 7 years.....

not necessarily sayin dizz is wrong ... but the last time i aspirated and drew blood, i cleared the blood in the syringe out in my sink, just a couple tiny drops, reinserted and injected ... no problems with clots ...
