The best advice is not to use an antibiotic when you don't know what bacteria is causing the infection. Go to a clinic.

Amoxicillin is normally used for Streptococcal, enterococcal, some gram negative bacilli, and mouth anaerobes.

If you infection is due to normal bacterial skin flora (like Staph aureus or Staph epidermidis or S. pyogenes) then Amoxicillin would not be the antibiotic to do the job. In this case Bactrim would work.

Really, leave it up to the experts. See a doc. You don't want to lose and arm.
