Injecting in NERVE
I hear that injecting in a nerve can be very very dangerous in that it could cause paralysis. I seem to come across a lot of people who have hit nerves in their leg, what is everyones thought on this?

When I hit a nerve, i automatically jerk...so I withdraw the needle, change pins and inject again nearby. And yes, i would imagine continuing to inject knowing that you have hit or pierced a nerve will eventually cause complications....

You'll know when you hit a nerve. Espically in you hit your siatic.

the muscle will usually start to jerk or twitch if you hit a nerve, x10 if you hit your sciatic.

I popped a quad nerve a couple days ago....my leg twicthed all over. I pulled out and injected elsewhere but I could feel it hurt for a day or so. A day or two later I developed this killer fever and chills and the major nerves in my upper body were stiff as hell. I gotta believe it is related to hitting that nerve or test flu. Really kicked my butt.

I don't pull out all the way. I just back up a little and move the needle...tends to do the trick.

Do you know what a nerve is made of or looks like? It would be nearly IMPOSSIBLE to inject into one. They are thin and FLAT, they look like those old school flat and wide shoe laces man. And that would be the sciatic. The other nerves would be maybe 1/4 inch wide like the ones that run through your arms etc.

well i was not really talking about literally injecting INTO a nerve but simply hitting one with the pin as it goes in, a reliable source told me it is very dangerous to strike one as it could possibly cause paralysis, just wondering if anyone knows anything about the dangers?

Yeah, if you hit a nerve you'll know it. The muscle will begin to twitch and spasm. I hit one in my shoulder last week and it started freakin out, so I just withdrew - changed needles - and tried again in nearby spot. No problems or soreness.
On the other hand, I've hit a nerve in my butt before; Didn't withdraw and try again, went through with it anyway and had some DOMS-like soreness for an eternity! It was brutal!

holy shit this thread scares me...hahaha the first time i tried to inject myself i was so worried about hitting a nerve the second the needle hit the muscle in my quad i passed out...hahaha

Ya, paralysis can result from hitting the sciatic (sp) nerve, but i've yet to hear of someone who this happened too, and i know alot of people who do thigh shots, if your worried, inject into your shoulders, not a whole lot to worry abou there.

Nerve injury. Nerve injury is another serious complication of IM injections and occurs more frequently than originally thought. During a five-year period from 1958 to 1963, an average of one case of nerve injury after IM injection was reported every three weeks to a medical liability insurance company.[4] Any nerve in the vicinity of the chosen injection site is likely to be damaged. The radial nerve is likely to be injured with injections in the deltoid or upper arm areas. The sciatic nerve is commonly injured by gluteal injections, especially in children.[10] In the past, children with foot drops were thought to have had "missed" cases of polio when in fact they had suffered injuries to their sciatic nerves with IM injections given during infancy.[10] These injuries were reported as early as the 1940s.[11,12] Sciatic nerve injury following injection is commonly manifested by paresis in the sciatic distribution followed by a causalgia or burning pain in the extremity several hours or days later.[13] Damage to motor function can be more severe, and recovery may be less complete.[14,15] One group reported that the diagnosis of sciatic palsy was made an average of 3.8 months following the intragluteal injection.[16] Radial nerve injury at the shoulder may be manifested by paresthesias in the distribution of the radial nerve and wrist drop.[4] Recent information has shown there is no specific medication that is neurotoxic when injected close to a nerve, but all will result in complete transverse necrosis of the nerve with extention of the necrosis to the exit of the nerve from the spinal cord if injected directly into any nerve.[4]

Foot drop is about the worst thing you are going to get and would really suck to have so be nice to your sciatic nerve. Paralysis is not a concern unless you do your injections in the cervical or thorasic spine.

Hit it in my quads. Makes your leg spasm but I didnt have any long term negative effects.

well I suppose I feel a little better about this. The sciatic is huge and it runs kinda close to the crack right? On both sides of the glute. I looked at some diagrams. Before I do my injections I always look up the nerve in that area, if I can avoid hitting one I am sure as hell going to. Good luck everyone!

any tips on AVOIDING nerves altogether? How bout the calves, anyone inject in calves without any problems? It seems the quad is the most common place that a nerve is hit...
-

ok looking at this diagram it seems a nice way to avoid the sciatic nerve would be to inject about halfway down the leg, with the needle coming in on the side of the leg, any thoughts on this???

its tuff to avoid somthing you cant see ,shoot calves if your a gluten for pain i did and i couldnt walk at all if you decide to shoot calves do no more than 1/2ml per calf and dont do prop you will be crippled,i shoot inner and outer tricept ,inner and outer bicepts, delts ,quads all around, pecs all around,i do have a bad shot now and again but they are part of the game so i just deal with it

cool man which is your fav place to inject? as far as least amount of problems? least pain?

07-06-2007, 08:59 AM #27
ive never even heard of anyone shooting anyother partr of their thigh except the quad, I wonder why this is.
-
07-06-2007, 09:00 AM #28
delts are my favorite then pecs and quads, tricepts are mostly painless also
-
07-06-2007, 09:01 AM #29
i enjoy the delts myself too, very easy. as far as pecs I have never done that before, seems easy enough to avoid any veins or anything major..

too many nerve endings and tendons in the back of your leg maybe?front of the quad presents the largest muscle
-
07-06-2007, 09:27 AM #31
I shoot my thigh
I alternate the outside front part of the thigh, left leg/right leg
I have no real problems. Minor pain once in a while, 2 ml each injection
Ice it for 20 minutes and go. I stand when I inject, Less muscle quiver, I push the pin in slow.
I had my thigh quiver once when I tried to start my cycle a years ago. I was sitting and relaxed. Knee swelled up for 2 weeks

haha yes I see that...i am going to start injecting in my mother****ing tongue anyone ever did that before? it IS a muscle, no?
-
07-06-2007, 04:23 PM #34
ok that was a joke but really, why has no one ever thought of this? I know it would work but I would be too much of a puss to actually put a needle in my tongue, but people get their tongues pierced every day...hmm

This thread got a whole lot better! Tongue injections hahaha... I'm gonna inject in my freakin' neck! Right behind my jugular, yeah! And I'm gonna do it with the syringe in my fist and use my thumb to push the plunger in so it's even more ridiculous looking!

IMO...i have done injectons where the musle twitches, i stop, relaxe, push the needle in deeper, and nothin bad happens. I think alot of our "nerves" are reactions of the muscle to being penetrated. Hittin an acual nerve would probly hurt like a sonbitch.
Sometimes on quads and glutes i might get a tingle somwere down the leg for day or so, thats it. To be honest, most the time when the muscle twiches, i dont even take it out, i stop, breath and push it deeper. If it hurt, thats a diff story.
Peace

Injecting oil that is room temperature or cooler can cause almost any muscle to spasm. It does not mean you hit a nerve.
Cold oil + hot mucle = twitch

interesting, I am going to begin doing that...i usually just leave at room temperature with little or no problems, however i have read enough that states heating the oil up makes it much smoother, thank goodness for this website.
