Research Methods and Procedures: Twenty obese men with type 2 diabetes (mean body mass index [BMI]: 35.5 ± 1.1 kg/m2) and 20 nondiabetic obese men were enrolled in the study. We measured serum follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone (LH), total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), sex-hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), and plasma leptin levels before and 3 months after metformin treatment. Both groups were placed on a hypocaloric diet and 850 mg of metformin taken orally twice daily for 3 months.
Results: Metformin and hypocaloric diets led to decreases in BMI and waist and hip circumferences in both groups. A significant decrease in TT levels in the diabetic group and FT levels in the control group was found, whereas follicle-stimulating hormone, LH, and DHEAS levels were not changed significantly. A significant increase in SHBG levels was observed in the control group but not in the patient group. Leptin levels also decreased after treatment in both groups. Decreased testosterone levels were not correlated to changes in waist and hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, BMI, and levels of fasting blood glucose, leptin, SHBG, or DHEAS in the diabetic group. However, a decrease in FT was correlated to changes in the levels of SHBG (r = -0.71, p = 0.001) and LH (r = 0.80, p = 0.001) but not to other parameters.
Discussion: We conclude that metformin treatment combined with a hypocaloric diet leads to reduced FT levels in obese nondiabetic men and to reduced TT levels in obese men with type 2 diabetes. Increased SHBG levels may account for the decrease in FT levels in the former group.
Why do you want to take it? Unless you are a type 2 diabetic it has no value to you. It is undergoing investigation as an anti-hypertensive and possibly improves lipid profile. Weight loss is only clinically significant in diabetics. Possibly has an increase in insulin sensitivity, could cause blood sugar problems down the road. Decreases glucose production by the liver so lactic acidosis (nasty cramps) could result in active individuals. Mechanism of action not largely understood. My advise is stay away from it for pct or otherwise, just because your grandma has a purse full of it doesn't mean you should take it.Last edited by Kratos; 07-18-2007 at 01:20 AM.

What indicates to you metformin will do any of those things. The mechanism of action is more likely attributed to absorbtion and glycogenesis. You are trying to draw a straight line between metformin and insulin . No reason for you to take it.

Metformin is also for people with any sort of insulin resistance. I take it so I don't have to eat 20 carbs a day to lose weight. My diet is perfect, but I'd like to eat more around 60 carbs while cutting. So that's what I use it for. If you don't have insulin resistance, I don't think it is going to help you. If that's you in the picture, you look like you handle carbs just fine.
There used to be talk of it doing all those things you said years ago. However it was discovered it only made people who had problems normal. It had no effect on normal people. It will cause a slight reduction in sugars absorbed, but not enough to make it worth your while.

K-R-ALA is another option.

Or maybe we should answer it this way. What WOULD help with pct and fat loss. I like Tribex Gold tribulus. I tested it out while taking no bodybuilding type drugs at all. I could feel a fairly large increase in sex drive, that leads me to believe it really does increase test production.
Albuterol is another good one. It is like clen in it's effect. Holds onto muscle and helps with fat loss. It has WAY less sides though. You can run it continuously for 2 or 3 months as well. All you need is some taurine in case you get muscle cramps. It's cheap and easy to get too.
I jumped right in with an 8mg tab twice a day. I got Volmax. I had some mild shakes for a few days, after the first week, I was side free. Then the second time I used, I only had shakes the first day.
I started getting some weird cramping, but taurine stopped it.
But of course that's just icing on the cake. Your AI and SERM are by far the most potent thing for increasing test, which in turn holds muscle and helps with fat loss.
