    Question Seizure n T3 ....?

    I know someone who has epileptic (sp) seizure problems .He is on medication (lamictal) but was wondering if T3 would be safe for him to use ?

    I would honestly tell your friend to ask his docter, epilepsy is nothing to mess with. T3 effects the thyroid which should have nothing to due with a neurological disorder but the body is complex and who knows if T3 would interfere with any current meds your buddies on. IMO a true med professional should answer this question.

    I would not recommend T3 or T4 for a patient on epilepsy medication. Lamictal along with most other antiepileptic drugs alter thyroid hormone homeostasis. By adding T3 you can completely shutdown the already disfunctioning thyroid, this could lead to many bad long term side effects. The small gain to be had from thyroid replacement therapy is not worth it to someone who is taking antiepileptic medication.

    Absolutely, tell your friend to speak with the doc first.

    *(I accidentally mentioned Graves' Disease...that would be hyperthyroidism.)
