    Aromatase excess syndrome?

    Hey, I'm male, 18.

So 4 months ago I had my hormone levels tested. My estrogen level was quite high and testosterone was quite low, but still normal.

My doctor thought this would go in balance by itself and just told me to take some vitamins. So I did. After 2 months I had tests done again. Estrogen was even higher and testosterone even lower. Then I had 1 month of Nolvadex .

Now I'm going to have hormones tested again in a few days. I really hope they are in balance, otherwize it is something really wrong going on with me.

I wonder if my estrogen will turn out to still be too high then how will this problem be treated? Lifetime Arimidex ?

I read about something called Aromatase Excess Syndrome, your body produces too much aromatase enzyme. Men who had this also had gynecomastia and even before puberty. I myself have never had gynecomastia.

I really hope my hormone levels will be normal now as I wouldn't like to use an aromatase inhibitor forever.

whats your body fat percentage? There are a lot of possible causes to increases in estrogen, obesity is a common one that's why I ask.

The disease your referring to is rare but other factors could be your diet, alcohol, or just bad genetics. I would follow your doctors directions. He'll help you get to the bottom of this.

    Good Luck!

nolvadex wouldn't change your estrogen production if you suffer from this condition naturally. It blocks estrogen at the receptor, so while on nolva estro levels go up, not down...it just can exhibit it's action on the receptor. If your in balance was due to a cycle, your condition may improve. You may need to remain on an AI, under your doctor's supervision of course.

Never done any cycles. That's the thing, no idea why it is out of balance. Then again if I had this condition I should have gyno, but no, no sign of it.

Went to see the doctor again. Estradiol was even more higher, testosterone was normal. So they checked my kidneys, testicles and thyroid with ultrasound. It was all normal. Now a blood test for thyroid. Going to visit again in a few weeks. My doctor didn't know why my estradiol is that high. He said it could be but probably isn't the Aromatase Excess Syndrome, because then those levels would stay at one points, not go higher and higher.

4 months ago my estradiol was 140pmol/l
    2 months ago 170pmol/l
    1 week ago 250pmol/l

Has anyone got any ideas, my doctor said it's a very mysterious condition.

sounds like even your doc is confused. Maybe one of your testicles is actually an ovary?

I saw a strange documentry one time called "I am my own twin" it was basically saying that sometimes twins dont properly split and end up being one person. The dna litterally didnt match from one spot on the body to the another. It can happen where the person appears male but has other female characterics.

I concur, you have ovary nut syndrome.

Seriously, I think your doc should try an AI instead, see my above post.

Yeah AI but they first need to find out what's causing this. And cmon, how can my testicle be an ovary when they were monitored with ultrasonic and stuff.

Well I've read alot about causes of high estrogen and I have no damn clue.

1)Liver - had a blood test done. It was all ok, except bilirubin was a little bit higher than normal, but it was while taking Nolva.
2)Kidneys, thyroid and testicles were fine.
3)I don't think it can really be aromatase excess syndrome, because then I would have had gyno already at the age of 12 or so, I don't even have gyno now. Also with this syndrome the estradiol level should be higher than normal, but also stable. Mine has raised over time now.

Dam I hope they find out what it is.

blocking estrogen receptors with nolva causes your estrogen to increase because it cant bind to receptors and break down, or whatever. The neg feedback from the high estrogen would explain low test too. Maybe if you wait a month or so to let all the nolva in you wash out you'll see normal levels again...

    Dude,

Unless their is a legit endocrinologist on this board then everything is mere speculation...
If your doc doesn't start to get a clue with a reasonable diagnosis- I'd get a second opinion from a specialist...

    Good luck Bro

Ok. Few days ago I went to see my doctor again. Blood test for thyroid showed that with it everything is also fine. So my doctor right now has no clue what's going on. I was told to take some vitamins and Quercetin which should make blood circulating better or smth.

I also asked if he would like to give me a prescription for an aromatase inhibitor. He said no, because last time Nolva raised my estradiol even more. I knew he was wrong as Nolva is actually a SERM. I didn't feel like going to teach him how the things are. Might aswell go to another specialist.

At the moment I myself think this is what happened to me.

    1. When I started going to gym, I started drinking protein shakes straight away. I ate about 3x300g cottage cheese per day(12g protein/100g cottage cheese) + plus real food like meat and so, milk etc. On the days I went to gym, I also drank 2x30g protein. So what I think my protein intake was too big and this burdensome for my liver. I also took Creatine for like a year, little pauses. Also took Methoxy for a month.

    2. The first time when my blood test showed elevated estadiol, I was given vasonit. I kept eating alot of protein and also taking creatine. I guess this was even badder for my liver and it couldn't break down the excess estrogen.

    3. Then I was given Nolva which as said elevates estradiol even more as it cannot break down on receptors.

Wierd thing is throughout this time I haven't developed any gyno. My doctor checked my chest and saw no signs of it. I have no lumps or anything. I looked some gyno pictures and they had those blungy triangular nipples, I don't have it. Only thing I have is when I flex my chest muscles and push on my nipples I can push down a little bit until I reach muscle. Is that normal?

I wonder how high your estradiol level has to be until u get gyno? I'm now thinking if I should see another specialist or wait till september when I was told to come back. Also, if my estrogen is elevated from nutritional supplement, could it go back to normal if I cut off the supplements?
