    Hypopituitarism-Please Help

Hey guys. Well I’m posting on here because I have just found out that I have hypopituitarism and it seems like a lot of you on here are more educated then my doc about this stuff so I thought I would get some advice. I am 27 years old and I pretty sure I have had low “T” since I was younger. I have always felt tired, depressed, weight loss, lack of appetite and poor muscle gain. I am 6ft tall and I’m only 155lbs(my lowest was 135!). I have tried to strength train and eat 3 solid meals and 3 weight gain drinks but that got expensive and it didn’t take long for me to lose my gains(if any). It started when I went to my doc with my symptoms and he wanted to put me on anti-depressants. I had to convince him to give me a “T” test. When they came back he was surprised to see that it was low(I wasn’t). Total T was 230 and my LH was 4.2. I had a MRI of my pituitary gland and that came back clean. All my other blood work came back good. He then put me on Androgel and I’ve been on it for a couple weeks with little improvement. I’m going to try to convince him to put me on injectable T and see how that goes. Would u recommend Enan or Cyp? What are some side affects I should be concerned about using this for the rest of my life? (I only plan on using T to maintain a normal level). Would u recommend using any other supplements to avoid any of these side affects? If anyone has any advice on what may cause or have had any experience with this it would be greatly appreciated. I have an appointment with an endocrinologist next week(there was a 3 month waiting list) I’m just tiring to educate myself before I go see him. Sorry for the long post. I have a lot on my mind! Thanks!

go to an endocronologist and see if you can get a script for low test levels. side effects on hrt dose of test are nil.

you'll most likely never be able to have kids, nor produce any test if you stay on forever so keep that in mind.

if you got a script it would most likely be for test e

Sounds to me like you're doing too much work/coaxing. I'd suggest getting a new doctor, or as recommended above an endo specialist. If you need a referral call your doc's office for one, if not make an appt.

The doc is supposed to be treating you, not taking advice from you on Tx.

Excuse me for butting in, I just happened to catch this in Google Alerts. I don't normally read this forum, but I follow hypopit and low T topics with great interest.

You are right, NWZ71, to consult an endo, and I am glad your MRI is clear, but you may not yet be to the root of your problem.

I'm not at all certain about this, but you might want to expand your research to include celiac and/or gluten intolerance. My spouse sounds a lot like you and he has low T/hypopit. He also seems to have gluten intolerance or celiac (still being tested).

My research has found that a very few celiacs have succesfully dumped their Androgel prescriptions after going on a gluten free diet. There's not a lot of research done in this area.

Don't go solely by gluten related symptoms, most celiacs are asymptomatic, making it a very underdiagnosed, but serious illness. Consider if there are related issues in the family tree. Also, if your endo does agree to screen you for celiac, and those tests are negative, consider a $99 stool test from www.enterolab.com. This is the most sensitive test you can get.

    Good luck!

Oh, one more thing - don't quit eating gluten until you are tested!
