    Non-clen cramps

I always get more frequent and increasingly severe cramps as my cycle progresses. I'm talking everytime I straighten or bend my quads the pain is intense and you can actually see the muscle moving unusually - as if it is a wave of water or someone is moving their hand under the skin. Today after cardio I couldn't walk or get in my car for a good while they were so stiff.

I am not taking clen and I drink a good 6 litres of water everyday.

Is the cause the same as the dreaded clen cramps, i.e. potassium/taurine is the solution?

I don't have enough information to cite a cause, but people often erroneously blame a lack of water or fluid consumption for cramping. In truth, hydration is much more a product of the proper ratios of body salts and electrolytes (sodium, magnesium and potassium) than water or any other fluids. These minerals can be leeched from the body by different drug combinations, likely related to what’s happening to you. If however salts & electrolytes are being inefficiently replaced, the presence of high water intake would serve only to further exacerbate an already negative condition by washing away the remaining salts, i.e. Water Intoxication or Hyponatremia…an osmotic attempt to rebalance internal and external cellular water levels in the absence of enough electrolytes:

    http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/h...ponatremia.htm

    -------------

Regardless, the best way to resolve your condition is to buy and start drinking Gator/Powerade which as you know contains concentrated liquid based (for faster absorption) electrolytes. It would also behoove you to purchase these minerals in tablet form from a drug or health food store for sustained release and protection.

Here’s a recent and EXTREME example that many of you may remember, of what can happen when these minerals are inadequately replaced and large amounts of water are rapidly consumed…again proving that water though important, is not the central component to hydration:

    -------------

L-Taurine is believed to play role in governing these minerals but scientists simply aren’t sure exactly what goes on there as even an exhaustive secondary data search on this amino acid will illustrate. But adding it surely wouldn't hurt!

MAgic, thanks for the informative response. I have always strayed away from these drinks due to the simple carb content, but the cramps are so debilitating I will need to try them. I'll keep you posted.

That product looks quite good, as do the administering directions.
Be sure to post your results for posterity!

    Best to you.

I can vouch for him Welsh, we often engage in such banter as his post clearly denotes with the..."j/k j/k".

Both of you are good guys don't feud over such trivialities.

Magic, trained quads/hams this eve and normally leaves me walking out the gym with gritted teeth fighting the pain from cramp, but today was cramp free. I sipped a Powerade during the workout and really helped. As I say, normally avoid these like the plague cos of the sugars, but figure it's worth it.

Peach, no worries, thought you were being a goof just trying to get their post count up. Sorry if I went for the throat.

just for info, there is a drink mix called replenish that is sugar free and is an electrolyte replacement mix, pretty cheap too, they carry it at wal-mart, big lots etc...

also, v8 has several times the electrolytes that powerade has, though it probably would be hard to drink intraworkout, but before and after could help.
