How does gear make you stronger?

Is it because of just intense lifting?
Or if you do a bench program does gear just make it more effective?

    The basics...

    1. More muscle mass results in more force production.
    2. Androgens improve CNS recuperation from weight training. This means you can train harder/more intense because your CNS recovers faster, and also that your CNS "learns" your movements better, resulting in more weight you can lift.

Good answer. I was going to say "magic", but I like your answer better.

Powerlifters (like myself) follow COMPLETELY different programs all together. The gear plays a part as drake said in facilitating more force production and CNS recovery but its only a part of it.

If your wanting to get a bigger bench, which I think your eluding to, then id first be asking why? The reason being there is a big difference between a bench for maximal strength such as a powerlifting bench and a bench for the sake of mass and size for bodybuilding.

Dont want much do you mate

Start a new thread over in the PL forum. State that you want to be a powerlifter and list your stats and training history. There are a lot of different ways to 'get strong'.

BTW I wouldnt go following a 'bench program'. Your much betetr off following a more rounded program that splits the focus across all 3 lifts rather then targeting just one, at least for starters.
