Western Union contacted me!

Okay, so I went to western union and the process went smoothly. I got a call later saying that there is a hold on it. They told me that person I was trying to send to is on a list they have that they cannot send to. They told me I needed to provide personal information about the individual such as date of birth. If not I can tell them I cannot provide that and get a refund. When I go back to get a refund they will surely ask for ID, and then could I be in trouble if I admit that it was me??? any input from anyone?
should I go back and try and get my money, has this happened to anyone?

Next time use credit card from a secure supplier site, like what i do. I can still, till now, get whatever i want with first class service and no security problems at all. I suggest you could still get a refund with no problem at all. You havent receive anythin anyway, have you?

I dont think western union will be trying to be involved in a bust. I would be secure in thinking if you go there they will give you your money. They really dont give a s**t.

there is a little more to it, a misunderstanding. I gave my friend my ID so he could use it last night. He was then this morning going to WU. He thought that I wanted him to order it in my name, because he had my id and my name was written on it for the shipping details but totally unrelated to the WU. That is not what I wanted at all. So he is the one who sent it, If I go back up there they may say well you are not who I just saw. So I may ask him to go back and use my ID, he looks like me anyway.

I had the same thing happen. I got my refund back, contacted my supplier and he gave me a different name to use. That was a couple of years back and not problem yet.

yeah it takes awhile, someone commented that sending money isn't a crime. If this is true then it should be no big deal. But sending money to someone on a certain list may be? If they know what he does it could be a problem. I will be going up there and let you know the outcome.

jjuice2121, first of all, western union didn't ask you or have you to state the reason for what purpose you're sendin the money for?? Secondly, if the shortlisted asswipe you're sendin the money to is already busted, you haven't received anythin from him yet. For all WU knows, you could have send him the money to thank his sister for some late night party in the past...get it??

The payment usually arrives there the next day and it depends on the source on how long it takes them to process it, mine is 2-3 days.

I don't understand how they could put a name on a list when you only need a name when you send money , if they "list" someones name wouldn't that prevent every person with that name from using WU?

Crazy thread. Just go and pick your cash up, WU are the largest money transfer agents in the world and thats ALL they are, no need to **** about.
Ive been using them to send and recieve money from all over the world for years using my real name and address, thats all there is to it mate, they are just agents, they couldn't give a damn where the moneys going or who it came from or what its for.

PS, The-dark, how can you say they are a waste of time, the money can be recieved by either party in less than ten mins, it's the supplier you use that takes the time, some are fast, some not so fast.
Also i used to use secure offshore credit card payment companys and i agree its as safe as you can get.

Yeah now that I think about there has to be at least 2 guys with the same name in the country I sent to. That is probably why they wanted date of birth or something like that. My source emailed me and told me to not go through WU and use a moneygram instead. Anyone ever done that?

When I used to w.u it was usually from a liquer store and those guys don't care where or why you're sending the money. Just take the reciept and get your money back. It happened to me once so I went to the store ,got on the phone with wu and they told me they don't send money to this place so I got my money back. I use mg now, no problems.
