What causes the need for Testosterone Replacement Therapy?

I've been reading posts from guys saying that they're on Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), meaning that their body isn't producing enough testosterone so they need to take supplemental testosterone (e.g. one shot of Sustanon a month).

I want to know what causes the need for TRT.

I think I understand the following:
When you do a cycle with an AAS such as Sustanon, the amount of testosterone in your blood greatly increases. Your body senses this increase in testosterone, and so tells your testicles to "turn off", meaning:
    1) They don't produce as much testosterone
    2) They don't produce as much sperm

Have I got that right so far?

You go on a cycle for maybe 10 weeks, and then you come off it. As your testosterone level drops, your body says "Hey the testosterone is getting low so we'll turn the testicles back on".

Have I got that right so far?

So what I'm wondering is this: Where does it go wrong?

Is it all about how long your testicles are "turned off" for? If they're turned off for too long, do they start to degrade?

Since everybody always talks about doing cycles of about 10 weeks in length, it leads me to believe that this is an OK length of time to turn your testicles off for.

So I'm wondering whether the need for TRT just comes about because people stay on a cycle for longer than they should?

Is it possible to do AAS throughout your life, starting at the age of 20 all the way up until you're 60, without damaging your natural testosterone production? I'm only on my first cycle right now, but I'm hoping if I do things correctly, take precautions, don't stay on for too long, then my own natural testosterone production won't be damaged.

As we grow older our testosterone levels start to slowly decline while estrogen levels increase, In some bodybuilders this process happens alot sooner than others because of the continuation of attacking your HPTA, Continually shutting your system down for weeks on end then trying to recover it isnt an ideal approach, over time this will effect your own natural production of test, In many cases the damage occurs to your HPTA and there is only one option which comes alot sooner in life than it should - HRT

You have to also add in the fact that TRT/HRT have only recently become a fad, it used to be only for those who are urgently in need of it, however over the last few years too many bodybuilders and athletes have used the loophole in the system to get prescription Testosterone, and many of the doctor clinics are in on the fashion too by over-prescribing this treatment to many people who dont really need it.

Even the test as shown in that one movie is a take home urine test which you can make your grandfather take to help you pass it with low levels of test and you get the presctiption legally!!

Basically the requirments to go on TRT/HRT have been drastically lowered to it being ALMOST as easy as you going to your doctor and saying "i feel i have low test" even if your bloodwork proves you are within range.

So i think to answer your thread, yes there are people who medically need TRT, however these days there are too many reported cases of people using the system to just get prescription testosterone.

I checked out several places and they ALL require pretty extensive bloodwork. I didnt find any with just a urine test papa could take. My dr said Almost any male over age of 30 is gonna show lower test levels than average male in prime. What matters is if you are experiencing effects of lower levels. memory, energy, etc.... If you have all the pieces of the puzzle, you can get a script. You can bet no dr is gonna chance his career to make a 1 or 3 hundred dollar consult. Especially with all the attention MLB and congress is giving to enhancing supplements. Would be nice if all the movie stuff was true though,, maybe i could have a car that travels through time!

Stress, drugs (street and/or prescription), alcohol abuse, age, trauma to the nuts can all effect testosterone levels.

my petuitary gland has inhibited LH and FSH functions. therefor, it doesnt communicate with the nuts like it should - and therefor, lower production.

tumours and other major health problems can cause the petuitary to be inhibited, as can obesity...

Sometimes the body tells the test to turn back on but sometimes the test has a little problem kicking back in!! Or sometimes people do not do the right post cycle therapy ( the drugs that tell your body to turn the test back on) and then you are left with sub par test levels

Many things can cause low test, age, past injuries (multiple) stress on the body, disease, diet. etc.

Wow is rare for someone to ask a great question is this forum, and even more rare to get a decent answer.
