    in this picture the subject is flexing and rolling his traps forward slightly which make the neck appear larger; I would say he gained size in his traps which are pushing the neck making it appear much larger than the before picture

    IMO this shows the subject with his head tilted further back in the after picture which makes his neck larger


    Again, I'm just looking for a simple answer.

    Simple, The neck muscles are connected to the trapizius muscles of the back. basically its just where the traps grow huge and bolster up behind the neck, creating the appearance of no neck!

    short answer: everybody is different. some may increase in neck size more than others.
