Water or fat?
Does anybody know how you can tell whether or not you have gained fat or water weight? I am in week 8 of a 12 week TEST E cycle at 500mg per week, and I have gained a little weight around my midsection. I am currently doing a lean bulk with a lot of very clean calories. It looks like my bodyfat % has gone up a few points, but is it bloat from water, or is it regular old fat? Whats the difference? Any way to distinguish one from the other? Thanks!

Well im on sus500 & prop 500 pw and so far no bloat at all. In fact, im loving prop. I think it should be available in supermarkets! lol
So far i gained 7.5kg but no fat at all so its water and mass but i can see my chest/shoulders and biceps grown a lot so im gonna extend my cycle from 12 to 14 weeks. (currently on week 5).

There are a lot of factors that come into play here. For one, how many calories above maintenance are you eating? If it is 500 - 1000, I doubt even 10% of it is fat. Gaining a few points of bodyfat in eight weeks? I highly doubt it. You cannot gain 10lbs of fat in 8 weeks, especially if you are eating clean and working out. I can almost guarantee you it is mostly water weight. It has been almost 5 months after my last cycle, and for a couple of months, I have gotten really loose with my diet. Since I ended in the summer, I was drinking hardcore on the weekends and eating like crap for almost three months and I hardly put on any fat, and this was after a cycle. Keep in mind I gain weight very easily.
I'm sure it is all water weight, so there is nothing to worry about.

well i am eating between 4000-4300 calories a day. about 250g carbs 400g protein and the rest fats. maybe I'm getting to much fat? anyway, my TDEE is is around 3500 so Only upped the calories a little to make sure I grow and gain as little fat as possible. I have gained 9-10 lbs in the last 8 weeks. Maybe I should up my calories a bit and not worry about getting to fat?

If it is a lean bulk, then I would say to keep your calories where they are at. If it is an all out bulk, then you shouldn't worry about fat gain and you should up your calories by a lot. Especially your carbs. If you gain fat, it is not that big of a deal. It is only fall, and you have plenty of time to cut the fat before the summer, let alone spring. Your carbs are also on the low side to be gaining fat at a fast rate anyway. If you gained 9 - 10lbs in 8 weeks on a cycle of Test E, then I doubt any of it was fat. The bloat you see is just water. Don't worry man, just keep doing what you're doing. If your gains are slowing down, raise your calories a bit more.

So how many carbs per day would you recommend for a nice bulk?

First of all I dont really trust most peoples TDEE calcs. They may get you in the ballpark TDEE is a tool for dieting and that is about it. Now, lets look at the numbers. 700 calories a day over TDEE equals 4900 per week, equals 39,200 extra calories over an 8 week period. A pound if fat is 3500 calories, which equals 11.2 lbs of fat. Now, I am NOT saying you gained 11 bs of fat. I am saying if the impendence for muscle growth is not present there is a good chance you will end up wearing these extra calories around your waist line. It is absolutely necessary to eat above TDEE to add muscle but dont kid yourself into thinking that just cause you are eating clean foods you cannot get fat.
