How to talk to your doctor???

Just got home from a visit with my primary care doc to get mid cycle bloodwork and my ass is sore from the chewin i got from him about how deca is used to fatten up cattles and causes premature tendon failure. When he asked me why i was self medicating, I told him because "the trt he wanted to put me on was one cyp shot every 4 weeks caused me to crash" he said my info was wrong because that stuff lasts 6 weeks and anything more than monthly injections was a waist of the prescription he did give me the bloodwork though so i guess what can i really say my question is has anyone figured out the right way to approach your doctor with the situation besides "Hi im on steroids and i need bloodwork"
thanks for all your replys guys i really appreciate your time

finding the right doctor is as important as the approach, and that can be a lengthy process.

really what you said to your doctor would probably work with some docs. some would just accept that you have researched and know the risks/benefits and choose to use once you explain it to them. just based off what your doc said it sounds like he isn't very educated on the subject.

as far as im concerned, this is the perfect approach. it gets the BS outta the way. if you get an ass chewing with that direct approach. you just say "thanks for your time, but you arent my father. see ya later" then you make another Doc appointment with someone else. eventually you will find one that is willing to help you. no sense beating around the bush, only to find out your doc is a moron. then you have wasted a lot of time, for nothing.

Both of these answers are IMO the best. Not all doctors are created equal! It would be wonderful to find you a doc that, even if he disagrees with your choice, is still open minded and willing to help and learn more, thus making him a better physician!!...TOP

What are you looking for from him exactly? Even if he disaproves of what your doin he still gave you the blood tests right? What test dosages are you running when he means (self medicating)?
    and how old are you?

you can't lie to, the almighty and your doctor. if the doctor is a jerk then find somebody more understanding and caring.

Look it's this easy.. My Father said something to me that has always stuck. There are 3 people in the world you should ALWAYS tell the truth to..."The Cops, Your Wife, and Your Doctor"

After careful examination.. And Thought... THE ONLY PERSON YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE 100% TRUTHFUL WITH IS YOUR DOCTOR...

Find the right doctor.. then spill the beans.. You will be glad you did.. he medically has to treat you regardless.. look at all the people with drug addictions.. u think when they go to their doc and tell them he says.. wow, ok, cool, whatever get bent, i dont care...

NO, HE TREATS YOU. That is what they are sworn to do.

FIND A GOOD DOC, It'll be the best thing you ever did for yourself.

one other thing. what kind of doctor is treating you?? is it just a general physician?? i find it funny that a physician would deal with things like HRT. personally, if i had to go through that, i would find an endocrinologist. they specialize in that stuff. and have a lot more training to deal with it. whereas a physician, is like a jack of all trades kinda guy. sorta like a handyman around the house. and you know what they say "you can be really great at one thing, or sorta good at a lot of things". thats why i would always get a second opinion from a specialist. in my experience, general physicians, arent very knowledgeable in anything. ive seen docs make really stupid mistakes with multiple scripts, that screwed people up. and was able to find the right answer by searching on google.

im not judging all docs. i just personally, havent had good experiences, wehn dealing with them. but there is good and bad, in every trade.
